The best dog brush: FURminator
Whether you have a pair of Golden Retrievers or a tiny Toy Fox Terrier, the FURminator deShedding tool is ideal for grooming your dog and keeping dog hair under control in your home. With two Golden Retrievers, I've found the FURminator is simply the best way to beat shedding. It's a brush-like tool that comfortably grabs and removes the loose undercoat without cutting the animal's fur or damaging guard hairs.
This lens tells you why I think this is an irreplaceable tool.
The number one complaint of pet parents: SHEDDING!
What's the worst thing about shedding dogs?
- the embarrassment of hair all over the house when guests come to visit?
- the endless vacuuming and cleaning?
- the constant checking and wiping of their hair off our clothes?
- dog hair in the salad?

Why not just shave my dog?
Besides the fact that he'll look goofy!
While shaving may seem like a good fix for your dog's shedding, it can change the texture of the coat, interrupt the natural shedding cycle, and impair your dog's ability to regulate body temperature. FURminator deShedding Tools provide a healthier solution to shedding management. And why have a dog with a beautiful long coat if you're just going to shave it off?
Right: Someone's gonna get sunburned!

Check over your dog before grooming
Inspect him for big mats, skin conditions
- tangles or mats - remove before using the FURminator; it's not meant for this. If the matts are too big, go to a professional groomer for help. Then you can use the FURminator to keep your dog's hair sleek and smooth.
- sores, bruises and skin conditions - may require treatment from a veterinarian before deShedding. Or treat at home and wait until the skin is clear and healthy.

How does grooming improve your dog's health?
necessary for health and hygiene
- Shed hair can cause skin irritation and needs to be removed.
- The removal of shed hairs helps the hair in its renewal process - it cleans the skin of dandruff, eliminates dry skin flakes and improves its insulation properties.
- Brushing stimulates the skin and increases blood circulation at the base of each hair. The secretions from these glands will keep the hair weatherproofed and promote a shiny gloss.
- Brushing and grooming can lead to the early detection of parasites or other skin issues - regular grooming provides an excellent opportunity to give a quick overall checkup.
- Most pets enjoy grooming sessions which strengthens the bond.
- Regular grooming will remove the loose hair from the coat that the pet has shed - significantly decreasing hair that might be ingested causing hairballs.
... and the #1 reason why de-shedding & grooming is important: LESS HOUSEWORK!
Undercoat Rake or FURminator?
Other tools for grooming dogs
There are other grooming tools that professional groomers use to de-shed or remove dead hair, from dogs and cats. These include: The 'Rake' with single or double rows of stainless steel teeth to remove dead or shedding hair from the innermost layer while leaving outercoat undisturbed
Shedding Blade with serrated edges, pulls dead hair from the undercoat.
Slicker Brush features very thin, bent wire teeth to remove hair at the surface without damaging the coat or pulling & tugging
