What's The Secret Of A Good Curry?
What's the secret of a good chicken or beef curry? Why a good curry powder, of course. Curry powder comes in all types of different heat levels and flavours. In fact, curry powders typically use up to 22 different herbs and spices.
In Asian and African countries where curry powders are used, family recipes are guarded closely. So closely that they're often not passed on until someone's deathbed. So I came up with my own recipe, which I use for my own attempt at my mother's secret chicken curry recipe.
Ways to Stretch Ground Meat
Love Juicy Burgers? Want To Cut Down On Meat Costs?
Years ago, a study showed that cherries were a great filler ingredient for meatloaves and homemade hamburgers. Cherries, the study proposed, were not only healthy, they added flavour to burgers. When ground up (after being pitted) with meat, their texture did not differ significantly from stew meat that was freshly ground up as well. Taste studies showed that people seemed to prefer these cherry and meat burgers over plain burgers, which often dried up.
Another way to cut back on meat and stretch your food budget is to add minced, partially sauteed mushrooms to your ground beef, before making burgers. In fact, I've made non-meat burgers so juicy and textured that it fooled at least half the people at a large party.
Finally, adding grated zucchini to burgers or meatloaf adds texture, fiber, and moisture - to keep them juicy. Just make sure that you squeeze out some of the moisture from the grated zucchini in a paper towel (kitchen paper).
