Truth, Justice and Deflating Marketing Windbags Everywhere

There are plenty of good marketing books out there.  Even some great ones.  There are loads of blogs and lenses devoted to singing the praises of these gems...and making some coin when you buy them through the blogger's Amazon affiliate link.

But, this lens is reserved for those marketing books that should be avoided.  Some at all costs.  Please, please do not buy any of these books through my (or any other) Amazon affiliate link.

Save your money.  Or, throw it in the street.  Just don't encourage these authors to commit pulpicide on any more trees.

For Those of You Keeping Score

We use a negative number scale to rank our choices. The "Best" a book can do is 0. That right, zero. Which means the book does no damage to the universe. You'll find that most of our choices rank lower.
  • -1: Just like cotton candy. Light, fluffy and you can eat it up quickly. But, eat too much and you'll be sick later.
  • -2: Bad. I wouldn't wipe my bottom with it.
  • -3: Worse. I wouldn't wipe your bottom with it.
  • -4: Even Worse. Should be stored at that nuclear waste dump in Nevada.
  • -5: My Eyes!!! Aargh!!! I'm Blind!!!

First Inductee into Our Hall of Shame

Is any really "Waiting for Their Cat to Bark"?

Book: "Waiting For Your Cat to Bark"
Guilty Parties: Brothers Bryan & Jeffrey Eisenberg

Damage: -3

Just how bad is it?: Amazon already has 84 used copies starting at $3.44

Judging A Book By It's Cover: Boring colors. Bad typography choices. Worst violation - If you are going to put a cat on your cover, at least use a cute cat.

Title: One of those "let's try to get them to think out of the box" titles that fails to make it's point clear enough at the onset. It needs a sub-title to clear up the meaning. Folks, if a book title won't make sense without the sub-title...guess what...it's a crappy title. Duh!!!

Content: Remember the Double Mint Twins? You got "two, two, two mints in one". Well, the Brothers Eisenberg got it backwards. They made one, one, one book into two. Unfortunately, there isn't enough new, original material for even one book.

This book, like it's predecessor "Call to Action" is mostly rehashed material from the Brothers Eisenberg's ghostwritten ClickZ columns and company website articles.

So, if you want to know how they made a Diamond Website work in 2001, you'll find it in the ClickZ archive. You don't need to read about it again, in 2007, in "Waiting for Your Cat to Bark".

If you want to read a good book by the Brothers Eisenberg, try "Persuasive Online Copywriting" (gee...wonder what that book is about?). It's short, but it's a gem. It's a ray of hope that they may come back from the Dark Side of the Force.

More Drivel from the Eisenboys & Co.

I like it. Humorous, and probably more helpful in the long run than the thousands of reviews extolling this or that overhyped marketing book. Good job! Write more! Make Money Selling Books Online
