Fuzzibunz cloth diapers

Success in cloth diapering starts with finding a brand that will work for you.

This past march, I gave birth to my 3rd child; a boy. While pregnant I had decided that to save money and save on waste, I would look into cloth diapering.

I joined Diaper Swappers online, and there was so much information to wade through.

I knew that I didn't have a lot of money for an upfront purchase, and that I wanted convenience as much as money savings.

I bought a variety of styles and brands, and by far my most favorite diapers are Fuzzibunz!

So, this lens is dedicated to the reasons I chose, and continue to use, this brand.

Cloth diapering was all new to me!

The cloth diapers I remember from my childhood were bulky, icky, and not very absorbent. I was pleased to discover that a lot had changed since my little bottom was running around in plastic pants.

My first choice I had to make was what kind of cloth diaper to choose. There were fitteds, AIO's, AI2's, pockets, and hybrids. I think I bought at least one of each kind, but I had a feeling right from the beginning that pockets were going to suit our family.

After the first three weeks of changing newborn fitteds, my little guy was big enough to try on a Fuzzibunz perfect size small. Immediately, I noticed how easy they were to figure out. After 9 months of use, here are some other great things I have noticed:

-Unlike other pockets that you had to shove and finagle to stuff, the "bunz" were simple and easy.

-The hip snaps made a perfect fit on my petite baby, he never had a leak!

-The color selection (if you are into that sort of thing) is better than some other brands

-They have a high resale value on Diaper Swappers. I know that my diapers, if kept in good condition, can be put to good use after I am done with them.

-The company offers one-size and sized diapers. I chose the perfect sized diapers for the fit. I do have a one-size Fuzzibunz and it gets some use. The option of either-or is nice. When my son grew out of his small sizes, I sold that stash to fund a medium sized one.

-The diapers are of the highest quality workmanship. I have several other brands, and the Fuzzibunz by far have stood up to the frequent washings and wearings better than all the others.

-There is no need to separate the inserts before you wash! You can just throw the diapers in the wash, and the inserts come out during the wash cycle. Other pocket diapers have to be "de-stuffed" before washing, which is icky.

If you are thinking about using cloth, the best way to start is to research what you think you will like, what conveniences you want, and what kind of accessories you will need.

Starting out fresh

Deciding how many cloth diapers to start with depends on a number of things. How often are you willing to do wash? Are you going to use disposables at all? How many babies will you have in diapers at one time? All these factor in to what kind of a stash you will need.

For our family, we use cloth at home and disposables when we travel. I also only have one baby. I started out with about 12 small diapers, and added on from there. We have several diapers of another brand that work when we run out of Fuzzibunz, so I would say we have about 24 diapers in total use at one time. We could get by on less, but I like being able to wash once a week rather than every couple days.

We store our wet diapers in a pail with a PUL Fuzzibunz liner that zips on the bottom. That way, when I do a wash load, I need only throw the bag into the wash machine and unzip the bottom. The diapers come out in the wash!

We make sure to run poopy diapers through a rinse cycle right away. Then, they either go into the wet diaper pail, or we go ahead and wash it with another load of laundry.

I use the same detergent for all our clothes, so it is safe for my cloth diapers.

My family doesn't use cloth, it would probably not work for my family since we're already overwelmed with laundry. But they look pretty cool!
