The Phenomenon Of Fuzzy Dice!
They've been swinging around above the dashboards of cars and trucks since the 1950s - fuzzy dice!
Some people love them, others think they are the epitome of bad taste, but over sixty years after they first appeared, fuzzy dice continue to dangle from the interior mirrors of vehicles all over the world!
Here's an affectionate look at one of the most enduring and popular retro car accessories - from how to make your own fuzzy dice to the origins and meanings of fuzzy dice and where to buy them!

Fuzzy Dice...Why?
What's the point of fuzzy dice?
My meticulous research into the origins of furry dice has reached the conclusion that if anyone knows definitively where, how or why fluffy dice originated, they're keeping it a closely guarded secret!
The same goes for their purpose. What are they for? What do they mean?
I live in England and can't comment on the USA (I hope someone else will), but fluffy dice were popular in the UK in the 1970's, gracing many a Ford Capri and Mark IV Cortina.
Despite being universally derided, furry dice have never really gone out of fashion in the UK and can still be found in abundance in every car accessories shop the length and breadth of the land.
Like Marmite and Twiglets (two British "delicacies" which polarise opinion), you either love furry dice or you hate them...
However, despite the fact that no-one knows where furry dice came from or what they're for, I doubt they'll ever go away...perhaps they're alien life forms observing humanity whilst dangling above your dashboard...you have been warned...

I love 'em! My son had a pair hanging from the ceiling fan in his room for years. They bring to mind memories of very cool classic cars and simpler times.

- I'm absolutely not a fuzzy freak, my dear. Not that I have fuzzy dice but if I ever had such dice in the car, I'd only look at them and not at the road, lol.

- In the UK they're called fluffy dice or furry dice
Really,
I can't see many Brits and certainly not many of my Welsh friends buying these.
Now Yanks, yes!
You should see the stuff hanging from car mirrors!
I especially like the 'Disco-Ball' type STUFF that will blind evryone in a hundred yards in all directions when the sun's ray hits it just right.
The first time it happened, I thought I was having an 'out of body experience.'

- My neice's boyfriend was a soldier and he used to drive a tank...no vehicle is complete without fluffy dice, so I got him some for his tank...he didn't seem as grateful as I thought he would be...very puzzling...
