g66g3e - Trying to Type "google"

Ranked #224 in Internet, #8,418 overall

Is your number lock on?

Certain types of laptop keyboards will contain number keys over the keys on the right side of the keyboard instead of having a number pad. If your number lock is on accidentally and you try to type the word "google" this will result in the word "g66g3e" instead.

Some common mistyped words are often purchased as domain names in order to gain traffic out of the typing mistake. Be careful of these domain names, use bookmarks to navigate to websites instead of typing the name into Google. Or use search engine auto corrections when you have made a spelling or typing error. There is also a thing on the internet known as "leet speak" which is often written with numbers replacing letters in words. This is not the case however with g66g3e, but the Google search engine can do a good job cyphering L337 speak if you type it in the search bar.

O & L are the problems.

When your num lock is on.

g66g3eAs you can see in the image, it's the O and L keys they cause the mistyping of the numbers 6 and 3 resulting on the word "g66g3e" instead of the word Google.

This can be a problem in any laptop computer that does not have a traditional number pad and doubles the letters UIO JKL M as the number pad.

The Compal FL90 is known to do this, as well as some other netbooks or smaller space saving computer designs. Try turning off the number lock located in the top right of your keyboard row. If the number lock key is a secondary key, you may need to press "FN" + "NUM LOCK" in order to activate the key.

You can also use any of the links to Google on this page to get you there.

A little bit about Search Engines

Boolean Searching

Internet search engines are used daily by millions of individuals surfing the Internet. They are the best way to navigate the huge amount of web sites out there. A good way of pinpointing the precise information that you desire is by using Boolean logic statements to narrow your search. Boolean searching is the application of Boolean connectors (AND, OR, and NOT) to the problem of finding information. In the case of Internet searching, the information is accessed through a database of links to Web pages and other resources, and the Boolean logic statements you construct will typically be processed against an index of words in these pages. The databases may contain links to 50 million or more pages, using indexes of tens of billions of words drawn from these pages.

What is your most common typing mistake?

We have all made a few.

I type space-bar before the next keystroke and then have to go back and put the space in the right spot. What kind of typing or common keyboard mistakes do you find yourself making while typing?

I find all kinds of "useful" keyboard functions when my cat decides to make himself comfortable on my laptop keyboard. He found this particular feature for me yesterday. It's quite a shock to see all those numbers popping up when you're not expecting it, thought I'd got a virus until I saw the numlock lit up.
