Where Did the Idea of Galentine's Day Come From?
The minute I watched the beginning scene from this Park's and Recreation episode, heard the term of Galentine's Day, saw the women sitting eating breakfast together and laughing and joking, I was hooked. Galentine's Day Rocks!
The idea of Galentine's Day was also repeated in the February 2, 2012 episode "Operation Ann". To quote Leslie Knope, "February 14th, Valentine's Day, is about romance. But February 13th, Galentine's Day, is about celebrating lady friends. It's wonderful and it should be a National Holiday."

Celebrate Galentine's Day with a Party, a Hug, or Jumping for Joy!
Too often Valentine's Day ends up being more of a downer than a pick-up. Even people who are in a long-term relationship can find themself feeling down on Valentine's Day. "We've lost that spark in our relationship." Or "remember our first Valentine's Day...." sigh "things aren't like that any more" and for those who have suffered a recent break-up or have lots of friends who are coupled up.... forget it. Valentine's Day is a major bummer.
But Galentine's Day is ALWAYS A HAPPY OCCASION. We all have at least one woman in our life who is important, a mom, a daughter, a BFF. And most of us have lots! People who can make us giggle just by rolling their eyes. The person you can talk forever with. So we ALWAYS have someone special to pay tribute to on Galentine's Day.
The original episode of Park's and Recreation labelled Galentine's Day had Leslie taking the ladies to breakfast. That sounds pretty cool to me, but even if that doesn't work out, take time this Galentine's Day -- February 13th to tell your female friends how much you treasure their friendship and support. Whether you are laughing together or crying together, good friends are one of life's greatest treasures!!

- Sure! You can write them an email saying, "Here's to having the best friends a gal could ever want." A friendship card in the mail.... well if it goes out today, it will probably get there. You can do a Shout Out on Your Facebook page. Small gifts work or gift cards, but I think Galentine's Day is really more about recognizing how important these people are to you and words are often a more powerful way to convey that feeling than gifts, I think.
