Beach, boats, sea walls and sand - all at Galveston, Texas

Here are eight web cams streaming live from Galveston, Texas. Galveston's continuous stretch of beach draws huge crowds in the summer. Cruise ships sailing for the Caribbean depart year round from the port of Galveston.

I was practically glued to these web cams in September, 2008, when Hurricane Ike stirred up the gulf and brought waves right over the sea wall. It was right around that time when I made another lens which has web cams from Maine to Texas.

The images you see on this page are clickable images - one for each of the eight web cams. These images were made using a screen capture software (ScreenHunter) and then they were resized to fit on the page better. In most cases, the images only show a portion of what you will see when you look at the actual web cam.

To view the live image being broadcast by a web cam, click on the image and a new window (or new tab, depending on your browser) will open and the streaming image will display.

Web cam viewing tip: You will find it helpful to know the time of day, the weather, and perhaps the tides.

Was this lens easy to use?

How many of the web cams did you look at?

Web cams can be tricky. It's really up to the operators to keep them running - and keep them pointing at something of interest! Was this lens helpful in finding some good beach web cams?

I had seen some of these before, but not all of them. Being a big fan of cruising, naaturally, I have checked in from time to time on the two that show the ships. And as a coastal reaident (lorida) we are always in great sympathy when a bad storm . . . especially a named one ... is hitting somewhere. I have spent time in the past glued to the one showing the seawall. Here's hoping that another occasion for THAT kind of watching doesn't come along again.

Galveston looks warm compared to here in the northeast! I could use some warmer weather. Nice work!

How to Capture an Image Displayed on a Web Cam

a.k.a. Screen shots

I use a free software called Screen Hunter. You can download it from CNET for free.
All the images I used in this lens were made using the Screen Hunter software.
