7 Games Like RuneScape - Free, Online and Download

Knight Online is a free to play alternative to RuneScape. As it is free to play the game relies on its Powerup Store for revenue. Players are able to purchase special premium items and services from this store, such as priority server access (great if you play during peak hours) and limited edition items to enhance and customise your character.

El Morad and Karus are the two factions within the game. Swapping sides is allowed but is a long and reasonably expensive task (so if you are planning to play with friends, make sure you know which faction you are planning to join).

Overall the gameplay is more reminiscent of World of Warcraft than RuneScape but is still a great fun alternative to RuneScape (with better graphics).

Sherwood Dungeon is a fantasy MMORPG that is playable within your browser and even boasts complete 3D graphics (one of the best browser based graphics available).

Sherwood Dungeon aims to be a simple and casual MMO experience with its simplistic and forgiving features such as the lack of a death penalty. PvP is supported in designated game areas, for fans of PvP battles.

Fans of RuneScape will feel at home with Sherwood Dungeon, unfortunately the lack of party support, player to player interaction and varied gameplay/content lets this game down.

The best feature of Sherwood Dungeon is the ability to play as a guest, you don't even have to create an account to try out this online MMORPG like RuneScape.

MoparScape is basically a RuneScape emulation or private server for RuneScape . Some servers may even include the member benefits of the original RuneScape for free (depending on the server).

Particular servers come with many other added benefits not found in the normal Runescape client such as faster levelling and easier access to items or gold.

MoparScape lets you create a high level character and explore areas/content that requires a large game commitment in the original RuneScape. With the number of different servers available there are plenty of options for players.

Last Chaos sticks closely to the winning formula that is the MMORPG game genre. The games offers plenty of content to keep players busy and combined with the high level cap offers many hours of gameplay.

The game offers 6 playable classes (Titan, Knight, Sorcerer, Mage, Rogue and Healer), upon reaching level 31 these character classes can advance to one of two options based on the players playstyle.

The game's strengths include its strong player base, stylish skill animations and regularly updated content. The forum community and support is also top notch and happy to help a new player learn the ropes.

If you can look beyond the repetitive questing and the generic fantasy world Last Chaos is a great game like RuneScape.

Conquer Online offers fast paced game play and plenty of different job advancements (and classes) to provide the player with plenty of character choices (although visual customisation is lacking). More recently Conquer Online has added the pirate class ans the game has since been known as 'Conquer 2: Invasion of Pirates'.

The addition of the pirate class means there are now 7 playable classes (Archer, Ninja, Warrior, Monk, Trojan, Taoist and Pirate). The game also offers 85 different skills between the classes and a potential level cap of 140, one of the highest available in the game genre.

The games simple but effective graphics make it a great download for low-end computers and even laptops (file size is roughly 500mb). Other notable features of Conquer Online include the ability to build a house, item socketing and a unique path finding system that allows players to instantly move to a location they desire (my favourite).

The game has one of the largest player bases of all TQ Digital's games with plenty of different worlds and channels. Conquer Online offers parties, open PvP, guild wars and even tournaments to keep players busy.

Path of Exile plays more like the action RPG genres of Diablo or Torchlight but is playable for free in your browser so it also makes a great RuneScape alternative.

Path of Exile has plenty of randomly generated areas all presented beautifully in 3D graphics. The game is extremely simple to play and learn, but there is massive amounts of depth and character customisation for those who are interested in deeply exploring the game mechanics. Players gain experience and level up just like any other RPG and distribute these points as they see fit between Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence. The game also features a massive skill tree that provides endless customisation amongst classes.

Path of Exile is currently in closed Beta. However there are regular Beta key giveaways (every 5 minutes) at their official website.

Atlantica Online is a great game like RuneScape option with the only downside being its large file size (2GB+) which will prevent it from appealing to everyone.

Atlantica Online is free to play and features full 3D graphics. The game offers 9 available classes, various skills and crafting capabilities. The combat system of Atlantica Online is unique, it uses a turn-based system instead of other popular combat methods in other various online MMORPG games. Because of this combat system players are able to recruit mercenaries to their party. There are over 30 different mercenary types and the player is allows to have up to 18 at any time (8 of which can fight in any battle). The game also features PvP battles that also use this turn based style of game play.

Guilds play a vital role in Atlantica Online with large guilds being able to occupy various towns in the game world, leading to massive wars between guilds over nations and territory.
