GANDALF! anyone who said harry potter is an idiot haha. first of all, even though harry potter does have that cheap ass spell avada kedavra, has never uses it because he is too much of a panzy. second, gandalf is 300 lives of men old and doesnt need glasses while harry is like 16 and he does need glasses because he is inferior. also gandalf killed a freekin ballrog AFTER falling for like 3 days and surviving. when he died, he came back as gandalf the white! if harry potter somehow used his cheap-ass spell to kill him, he would just be sent back because his task is not finished. also j.k. rowling is just not nearly as good a writer or storyteller than j.r.r. tolkien. Although I think that harry's friends (The weasleys, hermione, and perhaps dumbledore) would step in but If it was a 1 on 1 fight harry would when the crucio, flippendo or avada kadavra would destroy Gandalph instantly. So technically the spells Harry Potters series have are clearly better than LOTR's spells and abilities. But if Gandalph had the same spells as Harry then sure Gandalph would definetly be Gandoplh to come out on top but since he doesnt have the same spells Gandalph is dead. Although, Harry's pretty cool too. He's got some pretty sweet spells under his sleeve (or should I say, in his wand?) and could prove to be a pretty good challenge for Gandalf. If the two were to come together for a fight, who would win? Honestly, I couldn't say. Though, I'm leaning a bit toward Gandalf...But my opinion's a bit biased I think...
