How to Perfect your Garage Doors Installation

Step-By-Step Guide, Tips And Techniques

garage-doorsAlthough the replacement of certain parts and the removal of your old garage door tend to be complicated, these days manufacturers are trying to make garage doors installation easier on do-it-yourselfers by providing detailed instructions and guidelines. If followed properly, you should be able to install your new door in less than a day, but be sure to read over all steps beforehand and look over the following guidelines for further clarification. Installing your own door can save you a lot of money on expensive installation fees, so it is well worth the attempt, but if it is not done properly, it can prove to be dangerous, so be sure of your capabilities before starting. The model you choose will also factor in to the complication of the instructions, since installation depends on if you have a roll up door, a flip up model or a sliding door. The amount of panels can also make a difference, as can the option of using an automatic door opener versus opening it manually. Finally, you need to ensure everything is secure and attached properly, and that all safety mechanisms are in place, because a poorly installed garage door can be fatal. That being said though, it simply means you need to be diligent in your preparation so that you have everything you need to do it right.

How to Install Garage Doors

1. Add weather stripping to the bottom of your first panel, and then install the hinges to the top of your door.

2. Put together all your garage door tracks, following the detailed instructions, and then connect the rollers and brackets to the garage door. You can then place your tracks on the rollers.

3. Attach all the panel' hinges together with a power drill, and once it is secure and level, you can attach the upper discs of the vertical tracks to the wall.

4. Use lag screws to attach the jamb brackets to the tracks.

5. You now need your horizontal and curved tracks. You will attach them together with bolts, cut the hanger on the back to size and then attach the hanger to its permanent location and the track to the hanger.

6. Position the door in place, check its track alignment and secure all fasteners. For manual opening, you then need to install the torque tubes.

7. Verify the safety features by testing the door's reaction to obstacles.

Your manufacturer's guidelines will give you very detailed steps to follow, and they will be custom written for the type of door you are installing, since there are differences with each model, but these general tips should give you a good basis for a successful garage doors installation.
