Garam Masala Recipe
How to make homemade garam masala
- Serves: about 5 oz
- Prep Time: 5
- Total Time: 15
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp cumin seeds
- 3 tbsp coriander seeds
- 20 cardamom pods (green)
- 2 tbsp cloves
- 8-10 cinnamon sticks (each 1 inch)
- 10 black cardamom pods
- 10 mace blades
- 1/2 nutmeg
- 3-5 bay leaves
- 1 tbsp black peppercorns
- 1 tbsp fennel seeds
Instructions
In a stove, heat a dry frying pan and put all of the spices. Stir the spices and when they start to crackle, shake the pan several times. This will takes several minutes depend on the heat and amount of spices, when they fragrant, aromatic and roasted, remove from the heat. Transfer them onto a plate to cool.
Use coffee grinder or food processor or mortar and pestle to grind spices into fine powder. Store it in air tight container.
