How to Attract Garden Fairies

Fairies love gardens that are a little bit wild. In fact, the wilder the better! Fairies play where the grass grows long, the flowers grow wild, and the birds, bees and butterflies are plentiful.

They don't like tidy gardens with rows and rows of straight borders and nice, neat edges. They like secret nooks and hidey-holes, gnarled old trees, windfall and sparkling water. No chemicals or pesticides in a fairy garden!

There are three EASY ways to attract fairies.

1. First, make a fairy garden! You can learn everything you need to know about this at How to Make a Fairy Garden.

2. Maintain your fairy garden as organically as possible, and with lots of love. Fairies are attracted to humans who care deeply for the land around them, have a respect for nature, and are willing to work hard to look after both their garden and the creatures inside it.

3. Leave offerings and gifts for the fairies, and don't pester them! Fairies hate prying eyes. Be kind to the fairies with an open heart, don't expect anything in return, and earn the fairies' trust. Then, they will let you into their world, and bless your household with good fortune!

The Otherworldly spirit realms are divided into three realms - the Over Realm, where beings such as angels and ascended masters reside, the Middle Realm, where the nature spirits reside, and the Under Realm, where the faeries, mermaids, ancestor spirits and Mother Goddess reside.

The faeries of the Under Realm are the ancient ones, the Celtic gods and goddesses who have faded from our realm and become fey. Garden fairies fall into the middle category, under nature spirits. This family encompasses the flower fairies, pixies, elementals, gnomes, tree spirits, sylphs, salamanders and other fey of nature.

So who can we find in the garden?

Flower Fairies

Flower fairies are just that - guardians of the flowers! Each flower has a fairy looking after it, and when the flower dies, the fairy either retreats back into the Middle Realm until it is time for a new flower to grow.

Gnomes take care of the soil, and elves create the myriad of flower colours. Flower fairies are then responsible for various tasks such as ensuring the health of roots and leaves, or helping a plant emit its special fragrance. If an area is neglected, or worse, filled with litter and other negative things, the fairy will sicken and be unable to look after its flower.

Take good care of your garden, and you may well find that a fairy has used its magic to make a flower bloom extra beautifully by way of a thank you!

By learning about the flowers that attract lots of fairies, you can be assured of a garden full of fairy activity!

Elementals

Elementals are the fairies of the elements, ruling over the weather, the temperature, the seasons and the natural essences of life.

The Gnomes are the elemental fairies of Earth, and are ruled by their King, Ghob. The Salamanders are the elemental fairies of Fire, and are ruled by their King, Djinn. The Sylphs are the elemental fairies of Air, and are ruled by their King, Paralda. The Undines are the elemental fairies of Water, and are ruled by their King, Niksa.

There are also elemental fairies of Ether, as well as weather fairies, and all of these fairies work to keep the balance of Mother Nature in harmony.

Tree Spirits

Tree spirits reside within the heart of each tree. These spirits are very wise beings, particularly if you come across what is known as a Mother Tree, the spirit of which lives inside an old tree that has absorbed much wisdom and magic. Druids, witches and shamans often work closely with Mother Trees and other tree spirits.

Tree spirits will watch over your garden and home, protecting all within. They also act as guardians and advisors. They can teach about the soil and local wildlife, and also the history of the area.

Different types of tree will have different types of spirits, and each have a different form of wisdom to impart. Take the time to learn about trees that attract lots of fairies. You can find out more about the different properties of trees and Mother Trees in this wonderful book by Cassandra Eason.
