Add a Delightful Surprise to Your Garden

A well tended garden is a beautiful sight to behold. The huge estate gardens commonly found here in the Low Country are beautiful, but so are the little gardens flanking the homes in the suburbs and neighborhoods throughout the area. The flower gardens are beautiful in their own right but the finishing touches such as a well placed bench, sundial, or sculpture adds that extra sparkle.

Ornaments and accessories can draw attention to a particular area. They add character and personality to the garden, and can be enjoyed throughout the year.

Step into My Garden

Beautiful Stepping Stones From Amazon

The Sundial

A sundial is a beautiful work of art as well as salute to time and history. Man has been judging the time of day based on the shadows long before civilization developed calendars and clocks, and the hectic schedules that accompany them. When I step into my garden time slows and the peace seeps in. The sundial reminds me that time is fleeting and to relax and enjoy it.

Garden Statues

There were two basic types of gardens in ancient times, the domestic garden and the sacred garden. Statues of the god were a major part of the sacred gardens. The gardens circled temples, sacred lakes and groves. When the Roman Empire turned to Christianity, many of the statues (considered pagan by then) disappeared.

During the renaissance period many of the statues were unearthed and once again held a place of honor in the garden, but their status had changed. They were no longer considered sacred objects but ornamental.

Today statues are placed in the garden for two different reasons, as ornament or to honor a historical figure. Statures St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and nature, holds a place of honor in many gardens throughout the world.

The best place to seek God is in a garden. You can dig for him there. ~George Bernard Shaw

Turn your Garden into a Home for the Gnomes

Garden Gnomes are mythical creatures that first appeared in German Gardens back in the mid-1800's. According to legend, they are eager little gardeners and diligently work through the night. That's all I need to know. They're welcome in my garden especially if they're willing to do the weeding.

I love the idea of a sundial being used as a focal point in the garden. Generally my mind goes right to birdbaths but a sundial actually offers something unique that sets you apart from most gardens.
