The Daylily an almost perfect perennial

One of my favorite garden flowers is the Daylily sometimes mistakenly referred to as Day Lily.

Daylilies are hardy and easy to grow in just about any climate and used as a border or in groupings in many gardens around the world.

The beautiful picture on the left was done by artist Mary Lou Corn. Titled Orange Daylilies this piece of art looks like live flowers. I'll give you a link to her website below.

I'll also cover the growing of Daylilies and give you some examples of where to purchase these lovely flowers for your garden.

Daylily History

daylilyKnown to bloom from late spring to fall the daylily is often called the perfect perennial. It is available in a rainbow of colors and comes in a variety of sizes and shapes. The garden plant needs little care and can be grown in a wide range of climates.

Originating in Asia daylilies have been cultivated since 1930 in the United States and England. Through the hard work of hybridization we can now enjoy colors in near white, pastels, vivid reds, and combination colors.

The daylily can be found as short as 6 inches and as tall as 36 inches making it perfect for any landscape or garden.

The bloom lasts only one day, however each stem holds several blooms, so one plant can literally bloom for weeks.

I think I would need a whole yard full of these to get all the colors :) The watercolor prints you have here might do the trick though :)
