Another Lovely Day at the Art Show

The first time I was able to participate in the Garden Party Fine Art Show was 2005. A chance encounter at a senior-citizen-center craft show afforded me an invitation by Linda Callaway. My first reaction was I did not fit into the level of talent the other artists displayed. Linda assured me that indeed I was a good fit for the Garden Show.

Linda has organized the event twice a year and I have enjoyed each afternoon I have spent there. Of course, one reason to spend an afternoon at Linda's is her beautiful garden that is planted similar to an "California-Native" garden with a southern California atmosphere, but it is really a "Mediterranean" garden. It is not many private homes that have the entire yard as plants, no grass allowed. That is the loveliness of Linda's garden. Linda has the occasional help of a gardener to maintain the growth in the yard.

The second reason to visit is the friendly relaxed atmosphere of friends, nature and art. Plenty of chairs to sit and enjoy.

Stay and enjoy the pictures I took at our April art show and get a feel for putting on an event of your own. After your visit here be sure to come by and join us next time.

Our Fall Fine Art Show

Very Warm September Day

One September we spontaneously decided to get our feet wet and take a picture to remember the good time are had. In the background you can glimpse some of the artist's displays.

If you should come for the next art show you will be greeted by displays nestled amongst a water fountain with custom made pottery jar, hard packed gravel paths, a raised deck and two covered patios. There are market umbrellas and lots of chairs to sit and stay. Lunch is served and wine will flow.

Show Postcards

Layout and printing

In addition to the setting Linda is responsible for the design and printing of the high grade postcards she makes available to each artist to use for their mailing list.

That involves taking pictures of the artist's work, designing a layout and emailing it to a printer. Each artist is responsible for a share of the cost and gets what they need for their customer notification.

As the show ends for the day we would decide the date of the next show. Now we do it the last Saturday of April and the last Saturday of September.

Help with the Art Show

Black Bean Soup

Two years ago I volunteered to do the lunch angle of the work involved for the day. Linda always had a good pot of soup to serve and that was definitely something I could do. I have managed to serve something different each time since. This last April I made a quadruple pot Black Bean Soup.

My daughter Marcy had come up with this delicious soup from a can of beans. See the recipe Satisfying Black Bean Soup on Squidoo.

There is plenty food and cheers for guests and artists. Coffee, wine, water and music included.

Art Boy

Art Boy is the directional sign

Garden Party Art ShowRuth Law made "Art Boy" as the directional sign for the day of the show. He is about five feet tall and made by Ruth just for the day of the sale. He is placed by Ruth in the morning on Baseline and Forbes Street.

Art Boy wears a cloth hat and a big yellow tee shirt and points in the correct direction. A couple more small white arrows lead the visitor through the last two turns.

Colorful silk scarf flags and a painting by Marria Casner on a tall wooden easel marks the residence where the show is taking place. Hard packed gravel paths on both sides of the house give access to the backyard and the art displays.

See the map at the end of this page.
