4.0 out of 5 stars Nice for the price, August 1, 2010 By Bob_Zee "Bob_Zee"This review is from:Garmin 1350 Series nüvi 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics) I've resisted getting an auto GPS for years. Have known and relied on Garmin for boat GPS units for many years. This is a great unit for the price, although some of the maps seem a little out-dated. (I registered online and got the free map update, but frankly, intersections that were upgraded YEARS ago still were not updated.) Besides that, easy to use, easy to read, would definitely recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the money, July 25, 2010 By Erich Maria Remarque  (USA) This review is from:Garmin 1350 Series nüvi 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics) Feature-wise this version is very similar to 255W. It does come with an improved user interface, along with a faster CPU (the whole thing feels more responsive), and lane assist (which I've never gotten the chance to see in my town in the middle of nowhere).

Keep in mind that you will need a standard USB cable to connect this to your PC, but there isn't one included in the box. But standard ones that come with most cameras will fit.

It's a pretty standard GPS navigator with spoken street names, but with no extra features like MP3 player, voice commands, or FM transmitter. I am planning to give Garmin 850 a try since it includes all those bells and whistles, but for now this one will do.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Value, July 25, 2010 By Librarian (Southfield, Michigan United States) This review is from:Garmin 1350 Series nüvi 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics) I purchased the Nuvi 1350 when my old Garmin IQM5 GPS/PDA combo started getting glitchy. I'm very pleased with the unit, for the price. The screen is clear and easy to read, it finds the satellites quicky, it recalculates almost immediately, the voice is better and clearer than on a more pricey model that I tried, and its very easy to set up and start using.

It's worth going on-line and reading the manual (it only comes with a quick-start guide), as there were a few features that I couldn't figure out myself, and other features that I wasn't even aware of until I read the manual.

I was lucky that one of my camera cords fit the Nuvi, so I didn't have to purchase a USB cord. Not including a cord is very cheesy on Garmin's part. I called Garmin to be sure that I could use the camera cord, and customer support was very helpful. The unit fit right into the case that I already had from my IQM5

The pre-loaded Favorites are very complete and well organized. One of my complaints, however, is that there's no way to add your own address, then place it into a "Favorites" category. You have to choose a pre-loaded location to get it into a category, otherwise your location just gets lumped into the main Favorites menu.
You probably need a more pricey unit to get more options.

I've also found some mistakes in the maps, and a very glaring typo in the name of a pre-loaded favorite, and there's no way to edit this. Again, you'll probably get more advanced editing features with a more expensive unit. There is a "detour" feature and a way to add via points, but not a way to save routes in advance of your trip. I like the turn feature, which lets you see at a glance whether your next turn will be right or left. I also like that you can turn off the GPS to save the battery when you're looking at a route indoors. There's also a pedestrian mode and a bike mode, which makes the unit more flexible.

I had tried a much more expensive Garmin that had the traffic updates, and didn't like that feature at all. It was very inaccurate and not very useful. I think that's only helpful in metropolitan areas. I don't think its worth the extra money.

For a fairly sophisticated GPS that will get you where you want to go, at a really nice price, I'm quite satisfied with the Nuvi 1350.
