My job as navigator just got easier with a Garmin GPS

We now have a Garmin GPS as our navigator. I used to be the navigator when going on trips. My husband drove, and I followed the maps, letting him know where to turn next. Sometimes the navigating job required having multiple maps in my lap, especially when it came to traveling in a large city. Those days are over. I now enjoy the Garmin being the navigator.

Our test drive with the Garmin

Where is that Putt Putt Course?

Garmin GPSThe first time we tested the Garmin out, we thought it had gone bonkers. We wanted to go to a miniature golfing course. We actually new where this course was, but wanted to see how well the GPS measured up. Once we got off of the Interstate, it had us go in a different direction, than where we knew to turn. So we went along for the ride. After about ten minutes of taking us farther away from our destination, we ended up in somebody's driveway. We thought, oh shucks, and headed back to the golf course. Once there, I asked the person behind the counter if their golf course had ever been in a different location. She replied, no. I then explained that our GPS had taken us more towards the city. The counter person then explained that the other location is where the owner lives, and that is what shows up on the GPS map, since that is the location attached to his "mailing" address.

Oh well, so much for technicalities; the Garmin GPS worked how it was programmed to.

This is the model that we purchased. We love the spoken street names and that you can also select the voice style.

What navigation features are important to you?

Some of the features to choose from for the Garmin GPS, are lifetime map updates, one time map update, traffic info, and body style.

One of the nice features of the Garmin that I like is the Detour function. When we wanted to take a different route, we just clicked on Detour. It recalculated and gave us new directions.

The specs below are per the manufacturer listed on Amazon.

I think this is my year for a Garmin. Our adult kids have them, and I do like the security of detailed instructions and directions.

I like that the newer ones have the lane switching help. I am yet to use it for myself..but I think I would like that. I mostly feel that its important that it reads out the street name, so you dont have to keep looking at the screen
