Garmin Forerunner 405cx Review
Garmin GPS Watches For The Serious Sports Person
The first of the two Garmin GPS watches we will look at is the Garmin Forerunner 405cx GPS Sport Watch. This is one serious GPS watch if you are seriously into sports training. This device continuously records your time, distance, pace, the calories you burned and your heart rate. It even allows you to challenge yourself against its Virtual Partner if you want to step up your game.
Another feature that blows the competition away is the ability to share your workout data wirelessly with other Forerunner 405 users and store the data on your computer. Think about it, you can transfer your workout data to your friends and have friendly challenges with each other. Also when you finish a workout the Garmin Forerunner 405cx will automatically transfer the data to your computer when it is in range so you can analyze what you have done.
This device has over 120 customer reviews with an average rating of four stars on Amazon. Here is what some the buyers had to say about it.
Buyer #1
"I have really stepped up my running since getting a Garmin 405CX. My distance and pace have been steadily improving and I love having the data on the computer to review my run. The wireless downloading works wonderfully, I just have to walk in the house and my Garmin is talking to my computer. The touch bezel is not always the easiest to operate, but I have problems operating iPod touches and my daughter's quickfire touch phones too. So I think its partially my ineptness with touch devices. But I have a training display set up that I like, and I tend to leave it on that throughout my run. I don't have a steady running partner, so the Garmin has taken that place. It's totally addictive, and I can't imagine running without it now. My aerobics instructor, who told me about Garmins, is an incredible runner and she feels the same. I'm a small woman with a very small wrist, and the 405CX fits me better than some of the other models I borrowed before purchase. I'm very pleased with it!"
Buyer #2
"This item was very easy to set up and use. The bezel seemed a little touchy at first, but I think I just had to get used to it. Profile set up, software set up and connection with satellites was very fast and self-explanatory. I would absolutely recommend this product to any friends or family."
Buyer #3
"As with most Garmin products, this is awesome. We own three and this one is for my wife's Dad. My wife, who has ran the Boston Marathon ( 3:34 ), St' George, Miami and Victoria BC runs a lot and is very, shall we say, detail oriented about the math part of her workouts. Pace, distance, solid gps readings etc. This watch does it all. I personally use a Garmin 500 on my bike. I ride about 250 miles on average a week and they are not fluff miles. I race Cat 3 and I love my Garmin. In the past 10 years of consistent data training, we have owned 4 Garmins. We replaced them not because they broke, but because a more well designed in terms of size came out. We actually sold our old units. Buy Garmin. You won't regret it."

Garmin Forerunner 305 Review
For The Serious Runner That Wants Lower Priced Garmin GPS Watches
The Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver is for the Cyclist, Cross- Country Skier or runner that don't really need all of the features that the Forerunner 405cx offers and would rather pay a lower price, but still have a quality GPS watch that has some advanced features.
Okay, so lets look at what the Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver has to offer. Well, it gives you your precise speed, distance and pace data, it's waterproof and it comes with software that will allow you to download your workout data for detailed analysis. While it doesn't have the wireless connectivity of the Garmin Forerunner 405cx you can still download your data with the USB connection. Oh, and lets not forget the wireless heart rate monitor.
The Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver is designed for athletes of all levels and has a much lower price than the 405cx. Over sixteen hundred customers have reviewed the 305 on Amazon and it has an average rating of four and a half stars.
This is what the buyers are saying.

"I'm a walker (3-5 miles at a time with varied routes) and a jump-rope addict. It's perfect for both. I use it to make sure I'm keeping pace with my walking and see how far I've gone. When I jump-rope I use the interval timer to be sure I'm jumping for a certain amount of time and resting for a certain amount of time. I also use the heart rate monitor when I jump-rope to adjust my workouts. Great tool."
Buyer #2
"Has performed well up to this point. Checked the accuracy vs known distances and it is spot on. Can't beat the product for the price."
Buyer #3
"I've had mine for about 7 months now, and I absolutely love it. It's reliable and easy to use. The accompanying software is great, too. I walk in the door, plug the USB into my computer, and it downloads in seconds. I've read that other similar devices malfunction in rain, sweat, etc, but I haven't had any issues when getting caught in a sprinkle or when sweating my heart out during a 10+ mile run.
One and only drawback: it does occasionally take FOREVER to load satellites. Most of the time (I'd say 90%), it loads in about a minute. I'll turn it on and let it load while I'm stretching, etc. But other times, it gets hung up and will take up to 10 minutes to load. This is rather annoying when it happens, and of course, it's on those days when I don't have a ton of time anyway.
But, I wouldn't trade it for anything else."

If you own another GPS watch other than any of the Garmin GPS watches tell about it. How do you think it would compare to a Garmin?

- Great lens Michael, the content is brilliant! I also have a blog reviewing runners watches and personally I think the Forerunner 610 is the best GPS watch out there at the moment. But the new Nike+ SportWatch GPS is almost as good and looks amazing. Have you tried them out yet?

- I haven't really had a Garmin GPS, I have a Magellan right now. I can't really compare my Magellan to any GPS because it's the first GPS I've ever had. :P..
But I'm lookin' forward to buy a Garmin GPS, not the watch though. Nice lens! Informative and clear, thank you! :)
