Gary Nabhan: Saving seeds from extinction
Mostly saving native and heirloom seeds, and everything related to their life cycle, of plant foods of the Southwest Desert where he lives.
In his efforts to save the precious seeds, Nabhan has started a food revolution. Maybe it's better said, Gary Nabhan has started a "food restoration" program in America; helping Americans restore healthy relationships with their food and thereby restoring Americans to health.

Gary Nabhan: Leading hands-on in the dirt

intended, nor does he still consider himself to be a leader. I think it was something that was fairly reluctantly put on him. I have not interviewed or spoken with the man, but it's just something that I sense from his approach. His approach is very much like the cushaws and casabas he works with; rounded and fleshed-out and deeply grounded in with wisdom from the earth.
That's a good thing. Actually, in my book it's a huge accomplishment to be wearing the signs of having wrestled long and successfully with one's ego.
If you go to Gary Nabhan's office website at: www.garynabhan.com
his bio focuses as much on the communities and the plant foods he shares his passion with.
- The Geography of Flavor
- Localvore Hero
- Dismantling Metro Phoenix
- Good Gourd Almighty
- Home Cooking
Yet, and maybe because of this refreshing simple groundedness, he has been a major force behind the food restoration. His style of leadership seems to purposefully holding applause and redirecting attention to restoring America's food tradtions, both by name of organization and by grass roots/community based efforts.

- Your lens would be a great addition to the 'Soups' Group
( http://www.squidoo.com/groups/soups ) This group not just for soups but for all great traditionally prepared foods!
Feel free to add it anytime!
