Hey Dad...I'm Going to be a Stay At Home Dad
My dad looked at me as if I just told him I was gay. He started telling me stories about how he would throw a crying baby out the back door. I know my dad would have never done that, but he was trying to scare me out of doing this. He wanted to know when I would go back to work. He wanted to know what I was going to do for retirement. The thing is...none of that mattered to me. I just wanted to stay home and take care of my now two sons. Nothing against day cares, but my wife and I are the best care takers for our boys. Yes, there are some families that need to utilize day care, especially single parents. We decided it was worth the risk of losing an income to do this, we even continued living like we had two incomes and piled up credit card debt. It is all worth it.

Where it All Began
Dallas Born and Raised
I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Home of the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, Dallas Mavericks, and Texas Rangers. I have put the Cowboys on the back burner. I do follow the Stars, hockey is a killer sport. The Rangers are fun to go see when it starts to warm up. Mavericks...basketball is just not my sport. I have never left this place, although in the early years of our marriage, we did flirt with the idea of moving to Austin. Dallas is home and our families are here. I am the middle of three, older brother, younger sister. My Dad is from Mexico and my Mother is from here. They met in Little Mexico. Little Mexico for the most part has been eliminated. Only a few houses remain among all the modern day development. Even the church I was baptized in still stands, but vacant. My Mom worked at a bank her whole life. She made it through all the mergers and managed to retire from the same bank. You just don't see that anymore. My Dad came here with a third grade education. He worked hard and learned his trade as a baker. He opened and ran a successful bakery for twenty five years. I cried when he closed shop. I think it was his way of retiring. He now manages a bakery at a local hospital. Everything has its blessings. The last two years he was open, he hired the love of my life. One year was wasted because I was too shy too talk to her. Then one day she asked me to go with her to get some pizza, and the rest as they say is history. Credit Cards Suck

The "Hood"
Oak Cliff
Oak Cliff, often referred to as the "hood." Although I have seen worse places to live, it took having two bikes stolen before I realized you can not just park them in the front yard. Our home sat between a creek and a railroad. The creek supplied us with rodents, snakes, and tarantulas. The railroad provided us something to look at, trains are pretty cool to watch as a kid. That train would sometimes come in the middle of the night with its loud horn and shaking the windows and walls. My parents claim they did not know it was there when they bought the house, and of course one night they were pleasantly surprised. Our house was broken into once, my mom believes it was her alcoholic brother. So, my parents bought the house in 1960, we moved east to Mesquite in '85. Two bikes and a break in, not too bad for a place that is called the "hood." Oak Cliff is now highly sought out by the eclectic types. A lot of development has occurred, I hardly recognize some areas. Had I not got married I would probably be living there right now. Am I Going to Hell?
Not The Way I Interpret it
And whoever does not provide for relatives and especially family members has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. I Timothy 5:8 (NAB)
This video clip may have been taken out of context, I have not seen the full sermon. So I am not going to rip John Hagee for this clip, but give my fair explanation. Now I realize that there are different versions of the Bible, but because I am Catholic I am using the NAB version. Now everyone has different interpretations of what they read, including the Bible. This even includes ministers and priest. They are humans too. Here is how I interpret the verse above. If you sit around, sleep late, eat, sleep some more, allow your kids to go without diaper changes, do not seek medical attention for your kids when they are sick, just flat out negligent and oblivious to what is going on around you, then yes...you are worse then an unbeliever. Now I believe that providing for your family is not just limited to money. Stay at home parents do quite a bit of providing. There is taking care of the kids, taking care of the house, cooking meals, grocery shopping, and handling home economics. Now in our house I am not a very good cook. I do cook dinner for the boys, but she will cook for us when she gets home or walk me through something while in transit. We go grocery shopping as a family, she handles all the coupon stuff, she is really good at it. It is all about team work, we each provide for our family in certain ways for certain things. So...Am I going to hell?

- Shane on Hagee for his insensitivity toward real life. I never have liked him. Kudos to you, friend, for recognizing the need that boys have for their Dad's example and following your heart... and God's.
