Green gas, a propane heavy compound with a polysiloxane lubricant is the most common form of gas used in gas airsoft rifles. This mix of lubricant and propane rich gas helps to maintain the firing mechanisms and the propane is used as the propellant to fire the BB. For the real enthusiast, one often purchases a propane tank with a propane adaptor that fits over the muzzle of the propane tank and allows for filling the gas chamber of the rifle directly. Propane is not the only propellant used in gas airsoft rifles as some are designed to use CO2, red gas, or HFC-134a.
