Drive your car for better mileage and useage of alternative fuel for car

~Top Tips to save money on gas~

Changing your Driving Habits

Brake the right way
1. Braking the right way while driving is a very basic important rule to save gas. A car consumes most gas as it accelerates. Force = mass x acceleration. A moving car doesn't require much gasoline to keep moving (due to the inherent inertia). In practicality, you need to drive smoothly to improve your gas mileage. Let me give you some examples.

It is quite common if you observe that in heavy traffic conditions most drivers cannot control their speed with the accelerator pad alone. Instead, they step the pad and slam the brakes frequently. It is relatively easy to hold a speed in a long line of cars without stepping on the brake. The trick is to maintain a little bit more distance and try to practice this. If the traffic starts to pick up, just put slight pressure on the accelerator pad and anticipate the front traffic. This way, there is no need to hard brake and gas is also saved due to less pressure on the accelerator pad. You can also maintain your slow speed without having to accelerate.

In heavy traffic this is the most efficient way to save gas and can easily get you 10% - 20% better gas mileage.

Shifting Manual
2. No matter how "smart" automatic transmission cars are, they can't be compared to human control. A manual transmission is truly fantastic. You can pretty much determine if you want a sporty shifting (at higher RPM) or a fuel efficient shifting (at low RPM). Due to the mechanism of an automatic transmission gear shift, there will be associated higher losses for automatic transmissions. In general, a manual transmission can be a lot more fuel efficient.

If you have a manual transmission and want to save some gas, you need to shift up early and shift down late.

Shifting Automatic
3. If you have a cruise control function and traffic is light, you probably should use it to keep the car at constant speeds and lessen to need for acceleration.
4. Use the overdrive gears, as this will generally keep your RPM down.
5. Shift into neutral when you are standing still to reduce transmission strain.

Use Water as alternative fuel source
6. There is a recent technology that helps to save fuel useage by at least 50% and increase fuel efficiency. Basically, it involves in a conversion method to use water as fuel for cars and is completely safe without damaging or compromising your car's efficiency. Click Here for more details.

Hybrid drivers
7. For Hybrid car owners, the above is strongly applicable to you. Avoid fast braking. Hybrid cars have the ability to convert unused braking power into electric energy and store them in their batteries. If you need to decelerate faster, your brakes will engage and energy will be lost.

Change your driving habit. If there is a need to stop, release the accelerator pad earlier and apply slight pressure on the brakes with gradual strength. This often avoids a complete stop and inertia strength is saved when you need to accelerate due to green light. Better braking efficiency will be achieved and gas is saved because less is used for moving car inertia. This will significantly improve the efficiency of your hybrid car.

Turn off your air condition
8. This is somehow impractical in some areas. It's quite absurd to switch off your air condition during Summer times as driving is supposed to be an enjoyment not a chore!! But you need to know that the compressor for the air conditioner loads the motor of my car more, which will reduce my fuel economy. Occasionally, I only turn off the air conditioner if the weather is really cooling out there.

Park your car in the shade if you can, so you won't have to keep the AC working so hard and your car temperature is kept minimal.

Turn off the AC 5 minutes before you reach your destination and don't keep it working until the last second.

Reduce Idling Time
9. When you turn on a car, it uses a bit of gas. When the car is idling, it uses a fixed amount of gas over a period of time (especially with the AC on).

Generally if you foresee that you will not be moving for more than 30s or 1minute you should turn off the engine to help your vacation budget.

Reduce weight
10. As conveyed earlier, Force = mass x acceleration. by reducing the mass of your car e.g. removing unnecessary heavy items (keep your spare tire and car lift, but get rid of the gardening equipment).

Drive slower
11. Although we don't like to drive slowly, it's a proven fact that fast driving will increase the drag (turbulence) and hence increases your fuel consumption. It's your choice. There is not that much difference between 60mph and 65mph in terms of fuel consumption.

However, if you compare a car racing at its maximum speed of 200km/h (depending on the car), with one driven at 160km/h, the consumption is twice as much with reference to the latter. At the upper end of the power spectrum engines become very inefficient.

If you want to effectively save fuel consumption costs, you might want to use the half water half gas technology a try. Click Here for more details.
