Scooting
Scooters are a two wheeled road legal vehicle, which is similar to a motorcycle. The main difference is the fact that scooters are not as powerful, and are designed for slower speeds, and shorter distances. A scooter has many benefits that have led many people to choose them over other forms of transportation. If this lens you will learn of the many different types of scooter, and you may find the one that is right for you.
Scooter Power
I have seen scooters as low powered as the 49cc models, and as powerful as 600ccs. How much power you need is dependent on what you intend to do with your scooter. If you are a college student puttering around campus, then a 49cc may be just what you need, but if you are looking to go sight seeing for long trips, then you need something like a 250cc or more.
Chinese Scooters
Most major brands like Honda sell scooters, but lately some Chinese companies have produced scooters for the American Market. I cannot speak of quality because I have never ridden on a Chinese made scooter, but they seem to come with a smaller price tag. I will link to Chinese scooters, but I believe you should read the product reviews of every scooter you are interested in, regardless of who made it.
250cc Scooters
One of the most popular models of scooters is the 250cc scooters. These are larger, and powerful enough to take longer trips, and hall more stuff. They are slightly more expensive, but I think it is worth it. Most major brands have a 250cc edition, or sometimes more than one.
SAFETY
Even though these rides are classified as scooters, that is no reason to forget your personal safety. You could still wipe out, and get road rash the same as if you wrecked a motorcycle. You need a helmet at least, and you should choose some safety gear. In the modules below, I have found some safety gear that you will need.
