Gas Powered Remote Control Cars

This page describes the characteristics of gas powered remote control cars in contrast with those that are powered electrically or using fuel.

Gas Powered Remote Control Cars Overview

There are many types of remote control cars. The main categories are those that are powered electrically or using using nitro(fuel).

Beginners that are fresh to racing cars normally start out with 1:10 cars. 1/10 indicates that the dimension of the vehichle is one-tenth of the orignal. These type of cars are mainly catered for beginners as they have an average speed of 30 mph.

Electric powered models run on high capacity batteries. They have consistent torque relative to their nitro counterparts. They also have a faster throttle response rate. Their only drawback is the long time (30-45 mins)taken for battery charging.

Nitro car models use nitro fuel (methanol with a percentage of nitromethane and lubricating oil of varying composition) as their power source. They reach max power at their medium to high speed range.

In contrast, gas powered remote control cars use gasoline with oil. Oil is used as a lubricant. Ready To Run (RTR) models will cost a few thousand dollars. They are much bigger compared to other types of cars. Despite their high cost, gas is cheaper than nitro fuel. Therefore, gas powered models will be more economically viable in the long term.
