The Gateway Ordering Experience

June 3, 2007

I have to say I'm a bit impressed by Gateway's ordering process.

First of all: When you're placing your order, they give you the option of using two individual payment methods. So if you have a debit card for instance, which has a daily spending limit of $1000, you can use that to pay for part of your order, and then use a second one - or a credit card - to pay for the other half of your purchase price. That's *really* convenient.

Secondly: Gateway apparently sends you daily updates on the status of your order. Now I was confused by this at first, because it seemed like I was getting duplicate confirmation emails. After a couple of days though, I caught on that they seemed to be sending status updates instead. It'd be nice if they labeled these as status updates though, to prevent the initial confusion.

Third: They shipped already!! I was initially disappointed that I couldn't get overnight shipping for my tablet, but I did make a few customizations of course so I understood why they couldn't. I was expecting it to be almost a week before it shipped though, but instead it was just two days.

Overall it's been a great experience so far :)

Tablet PC Writing Ability

June 1, 2007

I've wanted a Tablet PC for a *very* long time. My husband thinks it's been 10 years, but I suspect it's more like 7 or 8. I've used Palm Pilot PDAs during that time, and had a brief one year stint with a Compaq iPaq as well. I absolutely *LOVED* the handwriting capability of the iPaq, but I couldn't stand the Windows Mobile OS. The handwriting is what kept me using it for so long though.

I've also owned an Apple Newton or two, along with various other PDA devices that I can't remember the names of. The Newton is what originally got me hooked on handwriting capabilities though, and even though the Palms don't have the same thing, I've actually been writing on mine regularly ever since I started using them.

And that's the primary reason I've always wanted a Tablet PC: Handwriting! So - I've been waiting for this for many years and I am super excited about this purchase!

A Few Pictures...

Pictures of my Tablet PC

I've taken quite a few pictures of my Tablet PC since getting it. Not only is it a wonderful tool to work with every day - it's actually become my primary work computer - but it makes for a great stock photography model too! :)
