Can You Be A Gay Christian

I was watching a documentary about the struggle between Christian beliefs and gay people, and it got me thinking. Can a gay person also be a devout Christian? The show went on to show how some gay people found God and tried to become straight. Most of them either failed, kept struggling, or committed suicide. What I terrible struggle to have to go through. I watched endless accounts of different points-of-view, and finished the show feeling really sad. Who was right?

Here's What I Think....

I was raised as a Christian and always taught that being gay was against God's word. As I grew up, I started to make my own decisions about what was moral and most of my ideals went along with the Bible...except for this one point. Can you believe in the Bible and the word of God but still question one aspect of it? I am a straight woman who is finding herself very sympathetic to the struggle of gay Christians. We both love God and want to follow His word, but I am not convinced that being gay is a choice. I believe that a person absolutely can be gay and Christian simultaneously. Afterall, I was raised that God is love and He will accept anyone into heaven if they accept Him. I will never believe that my God would reject another human being because of who he loves. That is my opinion. Now I want to know yours. Let the debate begin!

Yes, absolutely!

You bet! And great choice of books, by the way. My partner and I are starting a LGBTQ affirming Christian church in Salt Lake City because there are so many people there who are told the lie that being gay means God doesn't love them. Baloney! We're gay and Christian and the two not only go together, but make each other better.
If you are in Salt Lake City, drop by and say hello!
Peace and blessings,

The New Testament is a false document written by Jerome acting for the Catholic Church and many of its priests are gay, and some are known pedophilles. Jerome hated women, as noted in his diary, and was quite possibly also gay, Anyone who believes his document is confused, so no wonder you are asking the question.

blue22d says:

Remember, God loves all his creation. He loves the sinner and Christians are to love the sinner, the person, not the sin. We are to encourage all brother and sisters to not sin.

blue22d says:

All Christians sin. Christians are people who have accepted Christ as their savior. When this is done, you confess your sins and you are forgiven. You are to sin no more, but all fall short. However, you are to do your best not to continue to sin. Homosexuality is forbidden in the Bible. The Bible is the inspired word of God. If you knowingly continue practicing "any" sin, I do not believe you can receive God's blessing in doing so. You can be living the life style of a gay or any sinner and be a Christian but there are consequences for our sins. The homosexual is no more or less a sinner than the "woman at the well". However, in the story given by Christ, she went and as far as we know, sinned no more. There are those who professed to be guy but did change their lives. All things are possible through Christ (I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me Philippians 4:13.)

No way, Monkeybrain!

clifRad says:

No. But the reason for the confusion is that the Gospel we preach isn't biblical. We say pray this prayer and believe in Jesus and you'll go to heaven

But when this is what we believe we have a conundrum. They believe, and I believe so If I'm going to heaven so are they. This the right conclusion but built on the wrong premise.

The gospel is that you have salvation if love as commanded by Jesus. Obeying this command shows you believe in Jesus.

In Matt 25 He says when you haven't done this to the least of these you have done it unto me and he casts them out of his presence into damnation. This is independent of whether you said you believe in Jesus or not.

Now I don't know if you think practicing murderers, or pedophilies, or lairs or thieves...etc will go to heaven even if they prayed the magic prayer or say they believe.

And I do not know how anyone can throw out scriptures they do not like.
Keep seeking.

glockr says:

If you believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of God, then the answer in no. That said, having certain feelings or thoughts isn't always a sin, but acting on them can be.

Jhangora says:

I am not a Gay and not a Christian - so I don't think I am qualified to answer this question. However, I think both - religion and sexual orientation are private affairs and one should have the freedom to choose whatever one desires.
