The Philosophy behind Gayathri Mantra and Mantra Meditation

It is said that there is no greater meditation than Gayathri meditation. The sages of yore have demonstrated that long life with perfect health can be obtained by meditating on the Gayathri Manthram. All the teachers of the Vedas meditate of this mantra and make it mandatory for all those who follow the path of the Vedas (Veda - to know) to attain Jnana (knowledge), to practice Sandhyavandanam or meditation on the Father-Mother God through the light of the sun. Sandhya means - the meeting period between day and night, that is dawn and dusk. Upasana means meditation. It is those periods of the day which are considered as periods of peace and spiritual power and the inhalation and the exhalation are supposed to be balanced.

Practice of Gayathri meditation destroys many karmas and sins. By purifying the heart and the mind, it opens the third eye of Jnana (wisdom) and illumination. It helps man to live long and with a healthy constitution and helps humanity in hastening its evolution. In other words, Gayathri meditation keeps our mind and heart always pure, and helps us attain transcendental awareness.

Blessings of Gayathri Mantra

Unless the intellect is illuminated, the Truth remains concealed. Only a purified intellect can attain illumination. The light of Gayathri mantra helps remove the dullness of stupor in the mind's mirror and reflects the Truth in it, by which the mind is illuminated.

The light of Gayathri blesses the individual with the power of truthfulness, the power of speech, the power of healing and radiant spiritual energy. Good health, longevity, non-possessiveness, humility, spiritual insight, selfless service, unwavering devotion to Truth, cosmic consciousness and love, and other divine virtues manifest in the ones who practice Gayathri mantra.

Gayathri mantra removes all fears and is the best cure for all ills. It burns karmas and blesses with liberation. Wherever Gayathri mantra is chanted, evil spirits do not enter or they are warded off by the fire of that Word of God.
