PAIN WHILE PLAYING GUITAR

How I found fast pain relief to my thumb

PAIN RELIEVING DEVICE
I have pain at the base of my thumb especially when I play alot of barre chords. In extreme cases, the pain will linger on and makes it difficult for me to continue playing for the next few days or weeks.

Last month, I practised, stretched and played for several hours continuously. My thumb sort of seized up and hurts terribly. I couldn't even hold a cup with my fingers and thumb.

A friend of mine came to the rescue and placed these funny looking patches on the base of my thumb and miraculously the pain disappeared within minutes.
I was amazed at the swift recovery and enquire more about these patches that looks like fried eggs.

My friend told me that these patches are very new and combined Eastern acupuncture techniques with Western Nanotechnology.

BIG DEAL!!!
What I want to know is where to buy it and how it can help me.
Here's the website about these amazing "fried egg" patches!

Yamaha CH-10MII Chorus Effects Pedal

Cliff's collection of Effects Pedals

What is a Chorus effect and what does it do?

A chorus effect acts like two or more players playing at the same time. In real life, two players playing at the same will never be totally synchronized. Each will likely to start at slightly different time and pitch. This slight difference in time and pitch is what makes a chorus sound richer and fuller than a single voice guitar sound.

Aria Distortion Booster

Cliff's collection of Effects Pedals

Vintage pedal that gives you a smooth distortion tone

Distortion effects are intended to produce the sound of an overdriven amplifier, pushed well into its clipping region.

The one in the pic is a vintage distortion pedal from the 1970s. The circuit is pretty simple but it gives a nice smooth distortion tone.
There is only one control knob for Level and an Effect's on/off switch.

Would be great to know what is the value of this little pedal now.

Boss DF-2 Super Feedbacker & Distortion

Cliff's collection of Effects Pedals

Distortion Effects with Feedback Function

Here's a 80s pedal from Boss with the unique Feedback function.

Ease of Use : 8
Simple operation. Regular 3 knob distortion (level, tone, gain) and then the overtone knob for the level of the feedback. Simple on and off switch. Hold it down to get the feedback. It gets tricky when trying to turn the effects off straight after using the feedback so that takes some practice. It also takes some tweaking to get the right feedback sound

Sound Quality : 9
The distortion circuit is based on the DS1. But this is no DS, it's much better than any of the DS1 I've heard. It simply is phenomenal. You can dial in A LOT of treble, but I like a darker tone so I go bass heavy.
The feedback sound is okay, not what you will expect from a real feedback. But I must say Boss did a real good job here.

See the video below to hear the sound of the distortion and the feedback function.

Next Distortion X Pedal

Cliff's collection of Effects Pedals

Distortion Pedals with a difference

Here's a 80s pedal from Next with 4 unique distortion flavours.

1. Volume know controls the overall volume of the effect

2. Tone has a center position, turning to the right will reduce lower frequencies and causes the tone to be thin sounding.
Turning the knob to the left will reduce the higher frequencies and makes the tone more bassy.
The best position is still the center position and not adjust it.

3. Drive knob increases the distortion intensity, from crunchy to all out distortion.

4. The Wave knob actually allows you to dial in different distortion flavors. Something like what the current digital modeling pedals are doing.
The 60, 70, 80 position were supposed to replicate - as what you expect 60s sound, 70s sound & 80s sound.
The NEXT position - is what most effects pedal maker are now labelling "INSANE".

The Distortion sounds are pretty good but only main problem is the volume drops as you turn the dial to different position.
For example, the 60 and NEXT position are pretty loud, but when you dial to 80 or 70, the volume drops.
Other than this problem, it's a good pedal.

Octaver - Gives you extra powered low end to your guitar sound

Here's a 80s pedal from Boss that gives you the low end thunder!

The OC-2 Octave pedal lets users fatten up their sound by adding two additional tones--one and two octaves below the original note. Each tone has a separate volume control and plays back with outstanding clarity.

Compact octave pedal that produces tones one or two octaves below the original note--or both
Separate OCT 1 and OCT 2 controls, as well as Direct Level control for exact tonal shaping

Boss oc-2 Octaver

You have to mess round' wit this thing to get your sound and levels right. When u got it yo got it! its not the easiest pedal to use on my board but was well worth changing the chain around a bit to make this pedal fit, I use it after my compressor for guitar and no compressor for bass and yes it does work well with bass to no need for a seperate bass input....

Sound Quality : 10
Well I wont say my chain of effects hahaa but i will say use it after a decent 'vintage' compressor. May not comply with toppy effects units. I use dist and overdrive after this pedal took me a while to set all three but sounds excellent!

Reliability : 8
Depends on the gig...

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
Get your hands on the original Octaver i've heard they are better than the Octave's dont know whether thats true try before you buy to see if u like the effect.

Ease of Use : 10
Easy and simple - 3 knobs; Direct Level, Oct 1 (1 octave down), Oct 2 (2 octaves down)

Sound Quality : 9
My rig is currently:

Parker P42 > Boss OC-2 > Blackstar HT-DistX > Boss PH-3 > Boss RE-20 Space Echo > Laney LX65R Amp.

The OC-2 is only ever noisy if you hit more than one note - this isn't polyphonic so if people ***** and moan about the warble, get a damn polyphonic octave instead.

It's very analogue sounding compared to its successor, the OC-3. An absolute dream. Thick, heavy and dirty.

I managed to nail the CKY/Deron Miller guitar tone within seconds with my set up.

Reliability : 10
It's a Boss, that says it all.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Not had to deal with Boss Customer Service yet, and this OC-2 is used.

Overall Rating : 10
This pedal is not ever leaving my rig. It thickens up by tone and sound so much, and is incredibly experimental and heavy sound. I play metal, grunge, hard rock, alternative and occasional blues, and this pedal seems to do a good job in all areas. Essential, and in my opinion much better and more reliable than the OC-3.

Ease of Use : 8
Very easy, provided you understand what this pedal is for - it is NOT for chords, or getting Hendrixian Octavia-like sounds.
And provided you realise that the best effect is obtained by using your neck pickup.
Plus, if you are a sloppy player you will get a sloppy effect.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
Ignore any negative review.
The OC-2 is a fantastic pedal which does one thing very well indeed, and that one thing is creating a smooth, synth-like tone 1 +/- 2 octaves below the note you are playing.
You can make your guitar sound like an analog synth (especially with the use of compression and fuzz before the OC-2...even better...add some envelope filter or phasing as well - madness!), or really thicken up single-note lines (yes, even you shredders).
I've used one other octaver pedal (the 'legendary' Pearl one that also does 1 octave up) and I found the Boss to be far more responsive and reliable.
If you play with confidence, using the right settings, there is no glitching and neglible delay between the fundamental and the effected note.

Reliability : 10
Insert cliche Boss Vs Armageddon joke here.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : No Opinion
It's not for everyone (just read the other reviews) but those of you who, like me, like a bit of octave craziness will find it is a wonderful pedal.

Ease of Use : 7
It's pretty straight forward, but there's a lot of tweaking capabilities by twisting the knobs in real time. Setting to a particular tempo is a little harder then a digital for obvious reasons.

Sound Quality : 10
This thing is rich like astronauts! I walked into a hometown store of mine and one of the guys was tinkering around with it, they had just got it in. My ears immediately perked up, and had to find out what it was. And i don't just throw tens out there. After plugging a Silvertone guitar into a Fender Deluxe or something, I spent a half an hour just playing with it, twisting the knobs and making all these great pitch bends and stuff with the delay time (be careful not to blow your amp out doing that with the feedback!!), this pedal is absolute gold. Just pristine as can be, one of those tones that sounds so pure it's weird to hear because everyone's ears have been tuned to "digital pristines" now. I run an old Univox tube amp that it will most certainly sound wonderful in...the pedal has some sort of highly sought after long discontinued Panasonic chip in it according to the clerk. He had two Roland Echoplexs and said he thought it sounded just as good, and I believe him, not somebody who doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. Just one of those rare pedals immediately upon hearing you know there's something different about it.

Reliability : No Opinion
I am not sure if this was marketed as a "cheap" pedal ala Arion or what not back in the 80s. If it was, it is certainly built far better then the latter, metal chassis, real solid foot switch with an actually clever flip top switch that springs open for the battery compartment. Has some weight to it, feels sturdy. The foot switching mechanism is of a design I haven't seen before, there's a small vertical line cut in the battery compartment where a piece of plastic from the top side makes contact and activates a switch under the chassis, which looks like a good design in application, but will be careful not to "stomp" on it. It's this old and still works which means something too I suppose.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Yea right. Let me get my Hiragana book out first.

Overall Rating : 10
Well, I paid 150 beans for this...if someone totes it as an "old cheap pedal", oh by all means TAKE IT. And if you have to pay what I did, it's well worth it, couldn't find it on ebay or anything, they had to look awhile online to find an idea for a price. And $150 is well worth it, nothing out there I have heard touches it. Akai Headrush or Roland Space Echo (digital) will be you're closest and you'll still pay more. This is also just one of those rare obscurities apparently, so if someone is selling it for $200, that's the reason. And if you want it's tone you will pay it...

Three knobs: Delay (Short/Long), Blend (Dry/Delay), Repeat (Min/Max). Minimalist layout = butt easy to use. Though if you twist the Repeat dial past 7 the thing goes kablooey and starts feeding back or something, wrapping around itself and gaining in volume like Scratch Perry off his meds. Boss.

Sound Quality : 9
For a mysterious Japanese no-name brand cheapo effects box, this thing is just unbelievable. No, it's not an Echoplex. But it does an entirely convincing Scotty Moore slapback. Lush and round, no sharp edges like with digital pedals. Set the delay knob on short, set blend on five and repeat on four or so, and its like reverb. Just a really dimensional, musical sound. Even my L5-playing guitar teacher who recoils in horror at the mere mention of solid state likes this thing. QUiet too. I've played a Gretsch Tennessean a various Fenders/G&Ls through it, and it's perfect for surf, spy jazz, anything that needs echo.

Reliability : 10
Been stomping on it for more than 12 years. Has an outlet for a wall wart, but I've never used. It goes pretty easy on batteries also.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Does anyone know anything about these guys? I don't.

Overall Rating : 9
If you find one, grab it. I can't imagine there's any demand for these things, so they should be cheap. I'd freak it I ever lost it.
