Let's face it, funding is always a problem for those involved in planting new churches. A great solution may be to pursue a full-time of part-time career, providing not only income support for your family, but all sorts of other tangible benefits (health care, pension plans, employee discounts, free training, etc) and immersion in a secular marketplace that needs a Christian witness.

The Chaplaincy Network

Church planters who need outside employment to support their families should seriously consider a chaplaincy position! There are opportunities in almost every state, indicating a severe shortage of people willing to serve in this sort of marketplace ministry.

What a great opportunity to use your theological training and experience in a corporate setting, while earning an income and benefits for your family. A lot of church planters say, "I have no marketable skills? Just a seminary or Bible college degree." The greatest mistake I ever made in trying to plant a new church was working without a team or a network to support me. The entire "church planting vision" you so enthusiastically embrace can quickly turn into "Nightmare on Elm Street" without a net; and you would be safer walking a tightrope with a safety net than planting a church without one.
