Also, if you like what you see here, take a minute to click on the 5 stars at the top and rate this lens! I appreciate you!
If you get nothing else from the Gen Y's, know that FUN is what they are about - whether in business or in life, it needs to be fun! What can YOU do in your business to make it fun?
After all, life was MEANT to be fun!
The New Baby Boomers in MLM - Gen Y
80 million in the US, this Generation is sharp and up and coming!
- They've watched their parents buy into the "Go to College, Get a Job" scenario and it's not working - we know it's broken, so why do we keep promoting it?
- They see a job as more than just a paycheck. They want lifestyle to go along with that paycheck - Smart Bunch!
- They value personal growth and making a difference - what better place for them than MLM?
- Their idea of a "workplace" is any place with Internet Access and their cell phone - that is freedom!
- They are the most entrepreneurial generation so far, and "risk" is not something they are afraid of - they've watched the Enron/Worldcom scandals and are saying "No thanks!"
- They are social; embrace technology; and know that for $50, you can own a major business if done right - that is the recipe for success!
- They see that MLM and Network Marketing, especially InterNetWork Marketing is the ticket to creating what they want - and they are smart enough to grab it now and not wait 20 years!
Gen Y in MLM - Network Marketing
So, What Are You Doing to Target Gen Y for Your MLM Business?
Gen Y is our future, not just for MLM. Let's see if we are tapping this market adequately.
How to approach Gen Y With MLM
It's not about the "names list" or weekly meetings
Generation Y has embraced Network Marketing. This generation is passionate about freedom and lifestyle and obviously it takes money to make that happen. They aren't afraid to take risks and start businesses, and are fast thinking and innovative.Show them how Network Marketing can create what they love and more. Show them a company that is solid, authentic and has a mission.
Show them a product that is environmentally friendly; uses technology; or provides tremendous value. The money is important, but it is not the end-all-be-all.
Show them a brief compensation plan overview and explain to them what needs to be done to generate a small, loyal customer base (parents and parent's friends are great for this); sponsor others onto the team; and how when duplicated, the process can grow a rapid, massive paycheck for all involved.
Make it fun, upbeat and anything but boring!
Remember they are not looking for "old school" methods of building a MLM business. They love technology and would rather spend 30 minutes sending text messages than pick up the phone and call someone.
So, don't ask them to make a names list and don't invite them to a long, boring hotel meeting to promote their MLM business. (More on the names list later.)
Basically, be sure they see the fun in your business and not the work. Now, obviously, work is a part of it. But don't confuse your idea of work with Gen Y's idea of work. Show them a fun, social way of working and it looks totally different.
Make sure the company is solid, cares about more than the bottom line, is eco-friendly and creates fun teambuilding.
May sound over simplified but consider this -
Gen Y cares about community and they want to make a difference.
They have a short attention span. (Not a bad thing, less wasted time.)
They have zero tolerance for hype and shallow advertising.
This is the generation that says "Let's get it done now!"
MLM Training for Gen Y
How to Train Them in New School Techniques
Offer a very simple system that is easy to execute and duplicate. No need to explain the compensation plan in depth and no need to spend too much time on the products.
Develop a short, concise training of what needs to be done.
This may include -
Go through the company website and know where things are.
Create and/or update a MySpace and FaceBook Profile page. Most will already have these and they'll want to update these with their new, online business details.
Get familiar with and use the product line.
Approach a few people, friends or family and ask them to try the product and offer feedback. Remind them this is a tax write off and will come from their monthly auto-ship anyway.
Teach them to contact and show the business. Only give the basics here because they will have their own, highly effective way of tapping into their connections.
Remember, this is the generation who still keeps in touch with many high school friends using technology. All they need to do is make contact and simply introduce the opportunity and options.
Contacts can be sent to a company website; personal website; MySpace page or anywhere that is technology based where the prospect can click, explore and gather information.
Once the interest is there, sponsor and duplicate the simple concept.
Gen Y cares about others and often feels personally responsible for making a difference in the world, and certainly with their friends and peers. One would have to agree that with that type of mindset, they are bound to make a difference and teach the rest of is a few things along the way!

- What Gen Y Can Teach Us About MLM
- Gen Y, and specifically the current age group from 18-30 are calling their own shots and moving to their own beat. They resist many of the "old school" notions that their parents grew up with such as - "Go to college; Get a job; Work hard; retire in 45 years and then start living!" As a parent, this may be hard for you to accept, but let's face it. This concept is not working especially well for the masses.
What can we learn from them about MLM?
Creating Duplication in MLM With Gen Y
Success in MLM requires duplication - Here's how with Gen Y
Remember the short attention span. They love having fun, but you've told them this is a business for making money and creating lifestyle so get that done.
Gen Y typically feels comfortable talking with and socializing with people because of their upbringing. This group grew up with soccer practice; dance lessons; karate; and all types of social events scheduled back to back to keep them busy. They meet strangers easily and are comfortable around adults.
This is not the Rolodex crowd! Their contact lists reside at the social networking sites. Their business is their domain name and they embrace having a virtual, mobile business not even dependent on a home office.
Starbucks will work just fine!
The semi outdated concept of graduating from a top university and having any type of job guarantee is not a reality for Gen Y. They much prefer the thought of working for themselves; working amongst their friends and calling their own shots.
They are more than aware that the Internet makes it affordable and fast to introduce their business and products in an unlimited environment. Again, they already know how to use this technology. They can probably teach you something about it.
Just stand back and stay out of their way.
Forget the MLM Names List
Gen Y already has better skills for building a Network Marketing business.
I started the traditional way in MLM back in 1994, making that list of all of my family, friends, neighbors, past business associates - I do mean everyone. The idea was (and is) to share the idea of a business; the products and invite those who are interested to find out more by attending a meeting with you; or a conference call; watch a video; etc.
Well, this is great, but how do you get past the negative association that many have about our MLM industry?
And, what do you do when you run out of names? It will happen!
Gen Y doesn't need this outdated approach in their business (and neither do you!) They know how to contact; introduce and keep moving in their business.
They know how to use technology to get those prospects who are interested coming to them. And social networks are one key piece. BLOGS; Squidoo: You Tube and more - these have all made the process of building and sustaining a team of business leaders in MLM.
If you aren't familiar with using the Internet to build your MLM business and get prospects coming to you who are pre-sold on the industry and what you are doing, you'll want to get up to speed in short order. The Internet boom is here to stay.
Statistic show that right now, the average age of the Network Marketer is 54. You already know that Gen Y creates 80 million of the population in the US alone, and this is the future of your MLM business.
I'm not talking about the old paradigm of Network Marketing where you chase down everyone you know, bugging them and begging them to join your business. Using the Internet, you can go straight for the "hot market", those people that come to you, looking for an online business that will allow them to change their lives.
I built a $1.5 million dollar business offline. And, I did it the old traditional way - hotel meetings, dragging family, friends and anyone who would listen, getting no-showed at coffee shops, etc.
I never really liked it. I knew there had to be a way to combine the power of Network Marketing with the Internet! I found it!
With this system, I personally recruited more business partners in 6 months time online, than I did in 6+ years offline. In fact I nearly doubled my efforts. And, these are business partners that came to me! And, I was named a top sponsoring rep by my company, 3 out of 5 years!
As of September, 2007, I have sponsored over 650 people personally in four and a half years. And, thanks to technology and a solid training program, I am able to work with them and assist them in being successful.
So, with that, I'm going to detail the steps that you need to take to learn more, get your basic questions answered and get yourself on the road to success. Please follow each step so you have a better understanding of this system.

What is Network Marketing? What is MLM?
Great question, and one many have a hard time explaining.
That is MLM.
What if it worked for you like it has worked for so many others, including me?
When was the last time you recommended a good book, restaurant or movie to a friend? How often do you do that? Probably pretty often, right?
But, when was the last time the publisher, restaurant or movie producer sent you a "royalty" check for the referral?
Probably, never.
Well, despite the way things usually are, the idea behind what is now the fastest growing home based business trend in America and around the world, Network Marketing, is that if you get paid for recommending things you like, use and believe in, you'll do this more and more! And, you'll probably find some others that want to do the same thing.
That's it in a nutshell.
Take about 20 minutes and watch a movie that explains thoroughly what Network Marketing >>>>>
