DUFF

Bonnie Duff-Smith 3 weeks ago

Great job! Thank you! I'm a 50+year DUFF researcher. Scotland is my brick wall. They left Scotland for Carrickfergus area of N. Ireland. The line is SAMUEL DUFF, but I cannot find the link that connects him to his family in Scotland - he was born ca. 1700-1720. There were 4 Samuels from two lines, Mine was Samuel Duff who m. Margaret MONTGOMERY ca. 1740 They were in

the colonies by 1750s. Lots of USA info to exchange. Thanks. Bonnie

Hi Bonnie, the only information a Scottish Duff would be that of a baby called Andrew Duff, who was born in January 1891 and died on the 30th of September of the same year. His parents were Andrew Duff and Tabitha Duff who lived at 50 Cavendish Street, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Below you will find the excerpt from the Parish Register.

DUNKLEY

June Barnes 2 weeks ago

I see you have Dunkley listed - be very interested to learn more about what you have!

Allan Dunkley born Jan 1910, unbaptized, buried 6 Jun 1910, residence at time of death; 21 Anson Road, Wolverton, Buckinghamshire (Source All Trinity Church Burial Records, Old Wolverton)

Benjamin and Helen Amelia Dunkley, buried 1936 in St. Laud's, Sherington, Buckinghamshire, England, Grave location 41a

And one photo as below - unfortunately there has been paint poured over this gravestone and this has happened in a number of graveyards I have visited lately (if I caught anyone doing it I think it would end up over their heads instead of on the headstones).
Elizabeth Dunkley buried 1815 St. George, Wolverton, Buckinghamshire

DURDIN

Re: EMILY FLORENCE DURDIN

ECCLESTON (in Liverpool)

Bob Doris 4 weeks ago

My grandparents came from Birmingham England in a ship that both steam and sail . The family name is Eccleston and thought to be from Liverpool originally. Any info would nice

Liverpool was originally part of the county of Lancashire, although now in allocated to that of Merseyside. I have 3 burials in the late 1700s for ECCLESTON, in Lancashire, but not Liverpool;

12 Aug 1788 John, buried Holy Trinity, Shaw

1 Mar 1789 Nancy, buried Christ Church, Over Wyresdale

6 Apr 1795 (no Christian name), Christ Church, Over Wyresdale.

Not sure if you've tried it or not yet but the Ellis Island records would surely have information if they came over from England (a lot of ships came out of Liverpool to the USA), their search facility is really good and you should always look at the image of the original ship's manifesto it has a lot more information and sometimes contains a description of the passenger and where they were going to and who they were travelling with and going to visit or stay with.

FARR

Jen R. jramos9317@aol.com 10 days ago

Hello Eileen! You are an angel with a beautiful heart to help strangers with their genealogical search. Maybe you can help me. When I was a teenager my grandmother, Ethel Sinkler (Shelton, daughter of William Sinkler and Julia Gailliard) who was born in Summerville, South Carolina told me that her grandmother,(possibly her mother's mother), Florence Farr came from England. I don't know where in England. I see in your list of names that Farr is included. I greatly appreciate ANY information you have to share. Thank you very very much!!

Florence Mary Farr buried 1 Jan 1894, age 18 months, St. Martin, Oweston, Lincolnshire, this is the only Florence Farr that I have details of, hope that there may be a connection for you. If you get some idea of an definite area let me know and I'll see what else I can dig up for you (no pun intended).

FULLER

John Fuller 2 weeks ago

Thanks for all the hard work, Eileen. I am interested in the surnames Fuller and Parrott, which are both in your list. "Somewhere in England" is the only location I can offer. If the entries you have are not too numerous I would love to see what you have. Thanks again.

I have one occurrence of a FULLER locally but when I visited the church was closed and apparently his memorial is on a board inside the church, he was:

Edward Fuller who died in 1705, and the church is St. Laud's Church, Sherington, Buckinghamshire.

FULLER is a very popular name, if you could contact me by email directly through HubPages I will see if we can find some more info for you.

Coincidentally the Parrott information is for the same church, please see the information below under Surnames I-R.

Sandy 5 weeks ago

HIRST

Lynn 2 weeks ago

this is really a great site...thank you!

I checked through your surnames and sadly didn't see any Hirsts?

My ggggrand father was Ira Hirst, born in 1828 Batley, Morley. His father was David and mother was Martha nee Fox. Ira moved his family to SA where he died and his family remained.

Should you find any grave info on his father and mother and even their ancestors, I would be so happy as I cant find any info further back to see who my ancestors were in the Hirst line.

ira married Adelaide Octavia Kinsman and because her father was Curator of Gildersome I have luckily found lots of info...

Take care!

Hi Eileen, an update on Seth Foulkes. I now know which Thomas was his father, and Thmas's father was Jonathon Foulkes. Now I'm really stuck. Jonathon Foulkes was born in Denbighshire abt 1801, married Mary Lydieth in Liverpool in 1833, and from the 1841 census to his death in 1878 he appears to have lived only in the Prescot area of Lancs. In the 1871 census he lived in Whitefield Lane, Tarbock, Prescot. I can find no record of his birth or his parents' names, and I do not know where he was buried. I would really appreciate any info you might have. Thank you.

Hi Eileen, it's very kind of you to help others. My interest is the Foulkes family from Liverpool. My g grandfather Seth Foulkes was born 1853 or 1863 in Prescot I think, married Alice Twist in 1883, spent most of his life in Toxteth ( my birthplace) and was buried there in 1939.

I am struggling to find Seth's siblings and forebears. His father was Thomas Foulkes, but there were many Thomas Foulkes's in Lancashire, surrounding counties and north Wales. Have you anything relevant please? Thank you in anticipation. Jean.

  • EileenGoodall Nov 2, 2011 @ 4:23 am | delete
Sorry but I don't have access to the 1841 census although I know they are on there in London, Middlesex:

Benjamin born 1806, Caroline born 1816, Caroline born 1834, Benjamin born 1839, Jemima born 1840.

But they seem to have vanished on the next censuses. Perhaps if you post a message on Ancestry.co.uk on the BLAIRES message board then someone who has access to the census can find out all the details for you.

This gravestone research is certainly a real labour of love, I think it's great that you are sharing your images and records in this way. I was recently at beautiful old graveyard here in Scotland and some of those gravestones were so old and worn that I thought people should take photos and keep a record before the information is lost for good. Great to know others think alike.
  • EileenGoodall Oct 24, 2011 @ 3:52 am | delete
Thanks for your encouragement, it is a labour of love and has become a real obsession, I love photography anyway so that's a major plus although it does drive my family mad when we're out in the car and I get all gaga over a local churchyard I've just spotted.
  • EileenGoodall Oct 29, 2011 @ 7:18 am | delete
Well if you ever get the urge and want to send them to me let me know and I'll put them on my database - would love some help and I'm too far away to do the Scottish stuff.
