Yes! Italy is really the home of the most delicious food I could ever taste!

Just dropped back in for a visit -- I am particularly fond of olive oil and like to try the diferent kinds.

I love pesto, but I've actually never made it myself. I've had it many times in restaurants. We do use fresh basil in a lot of recipes.

For me there is no substitute for pinenuts. They are what makes Pesto Pesto.

I was trying to decide what to cook tonight and you've made up my mind. Spagetti Squash with Pesto Sauce.

Thanks for the add Kim. We try to get a basil plant from Trader Joes or Whole Foods. It grows for awhile indoors.

Walnuts or pistachio's are great substitutes, Mindguru. Thanks.

Our local Italian deli makes a wonderful Genoa-style pesto, and we make our own during the summer with fresh basil from the garden. Welcome to Culinary Favorites From A to Z.

We make homemade pesto from our garden basil, but substitute walnuts for pine nuts, making a slightly richer sauce.

I hope you get the opportunity to actually taste some pesto/basil/focaccia bread recipes and others that come from this region. My daughter cooked many of these for me and they are a part of my diet now, though in moderation because I don't want to gain too much weight, lol. But basil is such a great spice by itself.
