I love Honey and Manuaka Honey is the best! I know I've had them all but never actually knew there were different grades until I came to live in Oz. It is expensive but that's what quality is all about, excellent lens bea! I enjoyed it!

I never knew there was so much to know about honey. At first glance, it's simply a sugary syrup, but that's obviously not the case.

Are there any reputable stores in North America that sell Manuka Honey?
  • Beas Dec 14, 2011 @ 5:12 am | delete
I bet there are. You should look for MGO, UMF, or Molan Gold labels. With a rating of minimal 10 or 100 (in case of MGO).

Hi Sara, I have no experience with using Manuka honey on acne myself but people in this thread on acne.org seem to be positive. (but I guess you've already found that info)

I hope it will work out fine for you. Would really like to know if it does so it would be great if you have the chance to keep me posted. Anyway, good luck with the treatment.

Hi, I've been using maunka honey on my acne for about 5 days now. It seem to be pulling all the puss from my deep under the skin pimples. I just wanted to know how long this will continue and when will it start to clear?

    Thanks
  • Beas Jul 27, 2009 @ 5:56 am | in reply to Grazia London UK | delete
Hi Grazia, since I am only a consumer I would advice you to ask your dentist such a specific question. All I can say is that it is recommended by experts to use medical grade (sterilized by gamma irradiation) Manuka honey for wounds.

So in case of healing delicate 'post dental surgery' oral tissue this would also be the case I think. Otherwise you would risk infections caused by the bacteria that exist in non sterilized honey naturally.
  • Grazia London UK Jul 25, 2009 @ 8:08 am | delete
I have just had dental surgery with implants and tooth extraction. At present, I am using a corsodil gel in the wound on my gum. Would I be able to replace the gel with UMF manuka honey sterilized in my mouth or should i just use the umf 16 I would appreciate an answer. thank you

It is by no means my purpose to 'play nasty towards another company' but instead I only want to emphasize to customers, until the new rating system will be outrolled, to buy UMF Manuka honey because:

"UMF® Manuka Honey from a New Zealand company licensed to use the name UMF, and labelled in the licensee's name, is the only honey guaranteed to have
the special UMF® healing property and be of the same quality as that referred to in the research and clinical trials." (Active Manuka Honey Association )
  • Beas Jul 7, 2009 @ 1:25 pm | in reply to Wedderspoon Organic, Inc. | delete
This lens is not created by a company such as Haddrell's or made by someone paid by a company. Instead it is made by a consumer who wanted to know more about how Manuka honey is being tested, rated and consequently marketed.

This consumer happens to know that (unless this has changed the past months), Wedderspoon gets their honey tested for non-peroxide activity in a laboratory that does not carry out cross-checking of results with the Honey Research Unit to ensure that the results are correct.

Because the Waikato Honey Research Unit is the authority on (rating and testing of) Manuka honey I advice fellow customers to buy UMF Manuka honey. I also try to point out to customers that a new rating and testing system, due to be implemented soon, will (hopefully) provide more transparency.
  • Wedderspoon Organic, Inc. Jul 7, 2009 @ 10:27 am | delete
The reason why Wedderspoon Organic is the number one selling brand on Amazon is because it is the best quality Manuka and certified organic, not like Hadrell's of Cambridge. All our products are tested in a private independent laboratory that does not take sides and this is the reason why we do not support the UMF commercial trademark. We believe that the OMA mark supports better ethics, because it combines the organic certifications as well as the activity level found in Manuka honey and also using the same method developed by Professor Molan, which is in the public domain. Such allegations are pure fabrication and we will consult legal advise to see who is related to this blog and we assume it is created by Hadrell's of Cambridge or paid for by this private company. Playing nasty towards another company the way this blog is designed clearly shows the business ethics of one individual and is not to be trusted!
