It should also be a profitable niche as well as an interesting one. You will need to be focused, patient and interested in your business. Focus on why you need a second income this should encourage you as you will need to promote your own web site, more information on this topic later.

You will then be guided to obtaining a Domain name, this will be related to your niche your area of interest. This will be your web site name with a .com, .net or biz. Now you are on your way. Next you will be shown how to build a web site, this can be terrifying for a beginner but do not be put off by this. Building a web site is an ongoing project. You build a basic site to get you online then you can go back to your site as often as you like for years to come to make it better.

Hosting comes next you are going to need a hosting for your site. There are electronic problems with keeping web sites on the internet. A hosting site will overcome these problems. But I have to say this is one item that you will have to pay for. It's not a big expense and you can choose a site that suits you. Now you are really up and running. You are almost an affiliate marketer.

So how does the beginner start on this learning curve? The system recommended by most online training courses is that of Article Marketing. This system is the easiest and the less expensive of all online marketing. Your aim is to promote other peoples products via articles and a web site and guide customers to a merchant's web site. Basically you are the salesman, you presell the product send the customer to the merchant and they take over and make the sale, if successful you will receive a commission.

This system is virtually cost free to yourself. The only cost being your domain name and the possible hosting for your web site. It is possible to set up a web site and hosting free; you will need to do some research for that. Article Marketing or as it is known to some, "Bum Marketing" requires you to write articles about the benefits, pros and cons of your chosen product.

From the beginning, first you must choose a product. This ideally would be something you can relate like a hobby or a special skill you have. Whatever product you choose you must then research all the ups and downs of this product even go to forums for information good or bad, see if anyone has used your product and recommends it.

These articles will then be distributed to article directories at set intervals with the sole aim being to attract traffic to your web site. There you will promote your product and send your customer to your merchant who will take over the sale, if they make a sale you will receive a commission.

Other promotion techniques including article directories like Ezine Articles, Go Articles, Squidoo.com, Hub Pages.com, Ping .com, and pingomatic .com; there are many others but you will have to do more research to discover them, not difficult. Also as suggested before you can visit forums and get involved in discussions regarding the problems your product solves, be genuine give quality and relevant information, do not spam. By doing this you will be able to include a link to your web site or direct to your chosen product. But beware I say again do not spam.

You may now ask how will people know that your site exists. You like any business need visitors and you need traffic, there are many ways to attract traffic. One of the Best ways and cheapest way is to write articles about your chosen niche, not about you or your web site but about your niche.

These articles will ideally be written by you and a bit of advice your article should highlight a problem and provide a solution, but it should be about your niche. Your articles should be posted on article directories and at the base of your article will be a bio box in which you can then promote your web site.

One technique you will be encouraged to do is to build a list of your visitors, that is to say you will collect your visitors e mail addresses. Your training program will show you how to do this, but just for now this technique is the inclusion of an Opt in form. The visitors who "opt in" to your site will expect you to respect their privacy and keep their e mail info to yourself. This is your list, care for your customers give them free tips and advice on a regular basis and hopefully they will stay with you and buy products from you year in year out. Do not be pushy but do not neglect them. They are your friends and they will trust you.

When you get this far into setting up your second income stream you will have come across the phrase Search Engine Optimisation, SEO. Once again you will be made aware of this in your training. I suspect you will be encouraged to research this topic, as you will need to understand this process to improve your ratings with the search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, Msn and others. Better ratings mean more traffic. You will also be shown how to Ping and bookmark your site with Social Bookmark sites. Another technique is to visit other sites in your same niche and post useful, meaningful comments this way you can leave your web site u r l. Again this will help towards traffic and SEO.

These methods of gaining traffic are free. There are other methods which you can pay for, but if you are starting out with a new business I suggest you go for free traffic until you are more conversant with these other methods such as PPC and the like.
