Geocaching the hunt for hidden tupperware!

Ranked #11,535 in Sports & Recreation, #284,234 overall

Geocaching, the outdoor treasure hunt.

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game in which the participants use a GPS (global positioning system) to hide and find containers called geocaches or caches worldwide. Then they log their hidden caches or found caches at www.geocaching.com where people worldwide participate in the same hide and seek game.

Caches can range in size from a micro as small as a magnetic hardware nut stuck to the back of a street sign to as large as a big plastic bucket and lid hidden deep in a bush whacking field or hidden in a large stump . Hopefully it's a waterproof container...containing a logbook and maybe some "treasure," usually toys or trinkets of little value so that participants can "swap swag".

Geocaching is a wonderful outdoor hobby for an individual hoping to add exercise and scenic views to their schedule to a great free family hobby where parents get to spend time outside with their kids and the kids get a little treat for doing something other than sitting in front of the tv playing video games.

Geocaching (pronounced geo-cashing)...

A worldwide game of hiding and seeking treasure. A geocacher can place a geocache in the world, pinpoint its location using GPS technology and then share the geocache's existence and location online. Anyone with a GPS unit can then try to locate the geocache.

Oh yeah! The great outdoors! Treasure-hunting! I'm game!

Hiking-Hong-Kong says:

Certainly something that I will be researching and participating in soon.

Fulltimers602 says:

I've found 60 caches so far. My most favorite find so far was a trail out to the ocean in Nova Scotia. I left a travel bug in Newfoundland that went to British Columbia, Hong Kong, and is now bopping around England.

Spending time with the family...outdoors, having fun, running around looking for hidden treasures!...yeah! I'm game!

Ahh...no thanks...running around in the woods looking for tupperware isn't for me.

Cache In Trash Out!

"Cache In Trash Out is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the worldwide geocaching community. Since 2002, geocachers have been dedicated to cleaning up parks and other cache-friendly places around the world. Through these volunteer efforts, geocachers help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources!

Annually, we celebrate International Cache In Trash Out events where geocachers have an opportunity to participate in coordinated worldwide clean-up efforts. Geocachers host clean-up events in their local area on the same day or weekend as other geocachers around the world. Together, we make an enormous positive impact.

Did we mention that we also have a bit of fun while we are at it?"

We were on the Trans Canada Trail and across the street were residential homes, obviously someone was trashing out in a convenient bush area
