Geox Shoes
Geox Shoes are shoes that let your feet breathe, all the time, in dry or wet conditions.
Born in the 90's thanks to the creativity and the determination of its founder Mr. Mario Moretti Polegato, the Geox Group operates in the footwear and apparel sector in 68 countries, carrying out its mission: to deliver "breathability".
The ingenious Geox Breathes patented system allows micro-holes in the shoe's rubber sole to let out perspiration, while a protective, breathable membrane keeps water out and your foot dry.
Dry feet are happy feet and lead to a healthier you. With casual footwear for both men and women, Geox offers styles to suit many tastes

Geox Shoes - An Entrepreneurs Idea takes Shape:
How Mario Moretti Polegato built Geox
He remembered that NASA's footwear and clothing were made of a special material with millions of holes, too small to let in water but big enough let perspiration out. Polegato traveled to Houston to find out more and soon afterwards invented a similar membrane to fit between his shoe's sole and his foot. This membrane stops water from entering his shoes through the holes, but allows the vapor from perspiration to evaporate.
Next he patented his airholes and magical membrane in 100 countries. Because he was a wine producer in his heart, Polegato first tried to sell the patent to some of the big names in leisure footwear manufacturing: Reebok, Fila, Nike, Adidas, Diadora, Puma, and Timberland.
But they all turned him down, so he decided to leave his younger brother, Giancarlo, in charge of the family's wine businesses and started out himself to build up a manufacturing facility.
In 1995 Mario Moretti Polegato recruited five people to help him develop his dream shoe "that breathes." He named the company GEOX for the Greek word geos meaning the earth, and ox for oxygen or x for technology.
GEOX now employs 3,500 people directly and an additional 3,000 indirectly through subcontractors. Research (simulated 200-kilometer walks and water injections in heated shoes to simulate perspiration) and design take place at headquarters in Montebelluna; but, because of lower wages there, production is in China, Mexico, Slovakia near Bratislava (with about 700 emplyees) and Romania, where the GEOX factory at Timisoara employs 1,450.
Following GEOX's success in Romania, more than 10'000 other Italian entrepreneurs have invested there and in 1997 Polegato was named Romania's honorary consul for northeastern Italy.
Marketing: In 2002 GEOX began selling its shoes through Nordstrom (70 outlets) and Dillers (17 outlets) in the USA. The company adapts the shoes' materials, designs and cost to the country where the footwear will be sold. For example, the same GEOX model costs 10% less in Mexico, 5% less in Spain, 15% more in Germany, and 20% more in the US than in Italy. In Germany, GEOX offers darker colors and thicker leather than Italy's brighter tones and more elegant materials.
For diversification, in 2002 GEOX developed a patent for breathable clothing based on perforations on two special strips in the shoulder area, which is where body heat and humidity collect. Clothing accounted for 5% of the company's sales in 2003.
In 2003, Italy's leading manufacturer of casual comfort footwear and the eighth worldwide, Polegato was awarded "Best Italian Entrepreneur in the World" by Ernst & Young Global - a recognition of which he is particularly proud.
Teh company grows at about 33% per year, with the turnover in 2001 being 147 Mio. Euros, reaching 612 Mio. Euro turnover in 2006. - The consumers like Geox shoes!

A boot is a type of footwear that covers the foot and the ankle and extends up the leg, sometimes as far as the knee or even the hip. Most boots have a heel that is clearly distinguishable from the rest of the sole, even if the two are made of one piece. Traditionally made of leather or rubber, modern boots are made from a variety of materials. Boots are worn both for their functionality - protecting the foot and leg from water, snow, mud or hazards or providing additional ankle support for strenuous activities - and for reasons of style and fashion.
High-top athletic shoes are generally not considered boots, even though they do cover the ankle, primarily due to the absence of a distinct heel.
Loafers - A Definition
Slip-ons, are low, lace-less shoes. The style most commonly seen, known as a loafer in American culture, has a moccasin construction. First appearing in the mid-1930s from Norway, they began as casual shoes, but have increased in popularity to point of being worn in America with city lounge suits, though these still require lace-up shoes in more conservative locations such as Britain. They are worn in many situations in a wide variety of colours and designs, often featuring tassels on the front, or metal decorations (the 'Gucci' loafer).
A less casual, earlier type of slip-on is made with side gussets (sometimes called a dress loafer). Made in the same shape as lace-up Oxfords, only lacking the laces, elasticated inserts on the side allow the shoe to easily removed, but remain snug when worn. This cut is unusual and has its greatest popularity in Britain.
Mule - A Shoe, not an Animal!
Mule (a French word) is a style of shoe that is backless and often closed-toed. They can be any heel height from flat to high. The style is predominantly worn by women, but not exclusively.
The term derives from the Ancient Roman mulleus calceus a red or purple shoe worn by the three highest magistrates, although there is little indication of any structural resemblance.
High-heeled mules were a popular indoor shoe style of the 18th century, influenced by the patten, a backless overshoe of the 16th century. By the early twentieth century, mules were often associated with prostitutes.
In the early 1950s, Marilyn Monroe popularized the shoe, and helped to break its poor reputation.
Mules experienced some popularity in the 1950s and early '60s, and were seen in 1970s almost exclusively in the form of open-back Scandinavian clogs, but then re-emerged in the early 1990s, especially in its open-toed form (the "slide"), and began to dominate the shoe market for women.
Pumps - A Type of Shoe
The term pump for shoes is of unknown derivation according to the Webster's Third New International Dictionary. The reference can be to different types of shoe depending on the person using the word and the speaker's dialect:
- A type of athletic shoe:
- - In Britain it is one of many regional names for plimsoll shoes[citation needed] and as such was one of the ambiguous items requested in the Two Ronnies' sketch "Four Candles".
- - In Britain, it is another term[citation needed] for a type of shoe currently popular, also known as ballerina shoes, ballet shoes, ballet pumps or flats. These shoes are usually flat, rounded, covering the toes, sides and back. they are usually made from leather, canvas or synthetic materials. They can be plain, multi coloured, metallic and be decorated with patterns, straps, bows etc.
- - Athletic shoe equipped with inflatable air bladders was known as a pump sneaker, often shortened to pump.
- Shoes worn by dancers are called pumps. This is particularly true of Highland dancers.
- In North America, pumps (British English, court shoe) are heeled shoes with low cut fronts and usually no fastening, but can also be formal shoes for any gender. The type of women's shoe referred to as a pump is somewhat similar in overall shape to the handles of old-fashioned manual well pumps, possibly accounting for the name.

The Geox company was founded in 1995 by Mario Moretti Polegato. The brand name, Geox, comes from a mixture between the Greek word "geo" (earth, on which we all walk), and "x", a letter-element symbolizing technology.
Polegato was born in 1952 near Treviso. Originally destined to take over the family wine-making business, legend has it the idea for the shoe came while at a wine industry conference. His feet were very hot while out jogging so he had the idea to cut a couple of holes in the sole of his shoes.
He developed the idea into a viable product with the help of a small leather-goods business his family owned.
Discovering that there was not much interest in his idea within the established shoemaking industry, Polegato established his own company to design, develop and manufacture the shoes.
Geox is an Italian brand of shoe and apparel manufactured utilising waterproof/breathable fabrics.
