GERD diet - What is GERD and acid reflux?

What is a GERD diet?
What should be avoided in an effective gerd diet:
- large meals in general: these boost stomach pressure and the likelihood of reverse flow; have more smaller meals instead and don't eat in the 2-3 hours before bedtime;
- spicy foods and meals rich in fat: spicy foods are difficult to digest and fat delays the emptying of the stomach as well, leading to an increased risk of stomach juices entering the esophagus;
- the total caloric intake should also be reduced, as overweight people are at an increased risk of being affected by GERD;
- chocolate, alcohol, coffee and carbonated beverages should be avoided, as these may promote GERD; tomatoes and all sorts of citrus fruits are dangerous because of their acidic nature.
