German Blue Rams

German Rams have been described as hard to care for fish, but we haven't had that experience at all.

Of course we got our Rams from a breeder, so our German Blue Rams have never faced a lot of the hardships that face aquarium store fish.

We got 6 rams from a breeder that we found on some local forums, brought them home, and they started laying eggs the next week!

We were really happy.

We were even happier that we waited to buy our Rams from the person we bought them from, instead of buying them from a pet store.

Easy or not?

If you've kept German Blue Rams do you think they are easy or difficult to care for?

We have German Blue Rams that we got from a breeder several hours away from us, and we haven't had any problems at all with them.

We got two German Golden Rams from a local fish store, and one got Popeye within the week, and died several months later.

The other Golden ram is doing great, but we've never seen her lay eggs.

I'm glad that we waited to get our Blue Rams from a hobbyist because I think we had better luck with them because of that.

Of course he did sell his fish to pet stores, but we never would have known that if we hadn't talked to him about it.

Jeff does think that the fish we have are the nicest Rams he's seen, and he thought the fish at the pet store the guy sold too were nicer than other rams he's seen - and that was before we knew they were the same fish.

A 21 day old German Blue Ram chasing Baby Brine Shrimp. Tiny, isn't it?

7 week German Blue Ram Update

The German Blue Rams are doing great.

I looked at them last week, and could see a tiny outline of black on the first ray of some of their dorsal fins, now the outline is on the front and back of most of the ram fry.

We're also starting to see black stripes down the middle of the fish, and they are developing more of the German Blue Ram shape.

They still love to eat, and are eating finely crushed flake food, baby brine shrimp, and Hikari first bites.
