The German Shepherd Dog

I thought I would write a lens on my favorite kind of dog, the German Shepherd. I have a German Shepherd and she is the best dog in the world! She is loyal and a great watch dog. She loves the kids and is always there for us.

You can come home from a long day, and she is there wagging her tail and glad to see you. I cannot ever think of being without her. She is just a great dog.

German Shepherds are very intelligent dogs too. They are easy to train. They do shed a lot, so if you do not like shedding, a German Shepherd might not be the dog for you.

German Shepherds can get pretty big as well. A fenced in yard or a daily walk is necessary. In the end, the German Shepherd is a great dog to have!

Brushing Your German Shepherd

Brushing your German Shepherd is Important. The German Shepherd has sort of a double coat, such as a finer coat of hair underneath the top coat of hair. They also shed all year round, so you should brush them at least twice a week. Some German Shepherds have long hair as well. With regular brushing, you will notice less dog hair all over your house. Your dog will love to get brushed. He will thank you for it!

Feeding Your Dog

Feeding your dog is also important. My dog is allergic to certain ingredients in her food. She was scratching and scratching. I talked to my vet and he said she had allergies to her food. He gave me some suggestions for food, and her scratching stopped. If your dog scratches, talk to your vet, it might just be allergies too. Make sure your dog has plenty of clean drinking water too.

Heroes

The German Shepherd is a hero. They have fought in wars, and helped fight crime. They have saved many lives. They are even jumping from aircrafts in Afghanistan! They are also trained to detect mines. German Shepherds helped fight in World War 1, World War 2, and the Vietnam War. German Shepherds also help during disasters, such as finding missing people. German Shepherds are great rescue dogs.

Bathing Your German Shepherd

You should bathe your German Shepherd occasionally. Don't bathe them too much as this will dry out their coat. Make sure you rinse your dog well to prevent scratching. Only use dog shampoo as people shampoo may make them scratch as well. I think dogs really like to get a bath, even though they do not act like it, because they sure act happy when they are done!

Training Your German Shepherd

German Shepherds in a RavineIt is important to train your dog, as he will be obedient. An Obedient dog is easier to walk and groom. You don't want him pulling you down the street or running off! Always use love and praise when training your dog. Try starting with one word commands such as sit. Do this a few times a day, for a few minutes. Try training with one command at a time. A trained Dog is a happy dog!

Preventing Fleas and Ticks

Fleas can cause worms if ingested by your dog. Mosquitoes can cause heart worms. I rescued a dog with heart worms once, and it was a expensive heartbreaking time. She did survive though. Many flea and tick products can prevent mites, mosquitoes, fleas and ticks. You do not want a flea and tick invasion in your home. Talk to your vet to find the one right for your pet. Make sure your dog takes the preventative year round.
