Planning ahead is important if you want a baby and having type-1 or type-2 diabetes. Diabetes Pregnancy needs strict blood glucose control even before pregnancy. If planning for a child, control the blood glucose level near normal for 2 to 3 month before getting pregnancy.

Pregnant women who have never had diabetes before but who have high blood glucose levels during pregnancy called gestational diabetes . There are 3 to 8 % of gestational diabetes cases, so it is must to have the blood tested for gestational diabetes during pregnancy which helps the health of both mother and the fetus.

1. Having family history of diabetes,
2. Prior gestational
3. Gave birth a baby weight more than 9 pounds
4. Diagnosed as pre-diabetes
5. Being over weight or obese
6. Leading sedentary life style.

Gestational diabetes can be diagnosed with Gestational diabetes test which measures the blood glucose level, if it is higher than normal then gestational diabetes is confirmed with other tests.

Gestational diabetes treatment starts by first manage easily by smart meals plan, increased physically activity and proper medication or insulin treatment with frequent blood glucose reading as suggested by the doctor.

Gestational diabetes baby
Gestational diabetes affects the mother, only after the baby's body has been formed. So no birth defects, but babies may develop low blood glucose and breathing difficulty.

The baby may be with over size and weight. The fetus lead a life with high level of glucose inside mother's body, so baby's body practiced to secrete high level of insulin. That why after delivery the baby's blood glucose level drops?

Prevent diabetes type 2
After delivery the blood glucose level mostly returns to normal, still more chance for developing type-2 diabetes, so mother and the child should take preventive measure to avoid diabetes in the later stage of life. They should be careful in their food choices, keep their weight & size low and should be physically active.
