Get Pregnant Fast - Or find out if you have a problem

To me Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) sounds like it's going to be somehow unscientific. That's completely wrong. It's absolutely a scientific approach.

Basically it involves understanding exactly how your body works and using that information to optimize the process of getting pregnant. (I was amazed that I'd managed to get to my thirties without knowing this stuff. But it's not widely taught. )

Toni Weschler has been teaching FAM for over 20 years and has written a book that captures that experience. The book explains how fertility works and gives step-by-step instructions for making use of this information. She also explains why you should be able to get pregnant within 3 months by following this approach unless you or your partner have a fertility problem.

The full approach involves taking your temperature each day and plotting it on a chart. However, I found that once I understood what was going on with my body, I didn't actually need to do all of this - my body makes it perfectly clear what is going on. I did the charting to get pregnant with my first child, with my second I just observed changes in my body and got pregnant just as quickly. Your experience may vary.

First of all, the fact that we followed this approach and got pregnant FAST (twice) is not statistically significant! I'm telling you so you know that we've actually followed the approach and understand what is involved. When you read the book you'll understand why it works - it just tells you how you body works and how to make use of that information.

I was in my mid-thirties when we got around to getting pregnant. External constraints meant that it made sense for use to wait until a particular date to start trying so I had plenty of time to read up on the subject. I read various books with vague advice aimed at the desperate. Then I found Toni Weschler's book. Just what I was looking for. It's scientific and logical.

By following this approach I got pregnant on the second month of trying, but that pregnancy didn't last long. I got pregnant again the next month resulting in our first child. If I hadn't been following this approach I would not have got pregnant then - I was on a business trip at just the wrong time, but the book explained that there was an outside chance of getting pregnant by trying before I went away. We did and it worked.

Once our first child was 9 months old we started trying again. On the second month I got a positive pregnancy test, but it only lasted a few days (if I wasn't following the approach I wouldn't have known I was pregnant). On the third month I got pregnant with our second child.

I'd love to test the approach again, but unfortunately their Dad thinks two is enough ...

I'd say good luck. But if you read the book you'll see luck has nothing to do with it.
