Let's Start With: ALTERNATIVE TREATMENTS
(Please ONLY answer for methods you have tried to get rid of warts)
Duct Tape To Get Rid Of Planter Warts
A painless method

The theory behind the duct tape therapy is that if you starve a wart from air, it will die. The most common suggestions include covering the wart with a similar size piece of duct tape and leaving it on for six days. If the original piece of tape falls off, another replacement would be applied. At the conclusion of each six-day period, the wart is soaked in water, scraped with a pumice stone or emery board and left open overnight. In the morning new duct tape is applied and this process is repeated until the wart is gone.
Banana Peel To Get Rid Of Planter Warts
(yes, I am really talking about the yellow peel of the fruit)

I read about this method, mentioned it to one of my friends and it worked great - ridding him of an 18 year old wart. Unfortunately it did nothing for us. The method is to cover your wart with a patch of fresh banana skin, pulp side towards wart. Tape it in place. Change daily until the wart falls off. It is painless and did not smell badly.
Homeopathic Thuja to Get Rid of Planter Warts
(the belief that like cures like)
Have you tried homeopathic Thuja to get rid of planters warts? It comes either as an oral remedy or a paint which can be applied daily. It is painless, but slow, taking up to two months to get rid of warts.
Essential Oils and Apple Cider Vinegar
Tea tree, lemon oil and apple cider vinegar

Combine equal parts of Tea Tree Oil, Lemon Oil and Apple cider vinegar. Apply with a q-tip 2-3 times per day. Keep covered as it is wet and messy. The women who told me about this method said her child reported it to be painless and the child's wart dropped off in two weeks. (Thanks Sara)
I have also read that some people use the apple cider vinegar alone, applying it directly to the wart. It is recommended that the surrounding tissue be protected with vaseline prior to adding the apple cider vinegar. Using the apple cider vinegar alone is often found to be quite painful, while the mixure above appears to be painless.
Windex (just kidding)
(I saw in a movie once that Windex cures anything)
Any other natural or alternative remedies?

CONVENTIONAL TREATMENTS
(Please ONLY answer for methods you have tried to get rid of warts)
Over the Counter Salicylic Acid Treatments to Get Rid of Planter Warts
Such as - Duo Film, Compound W, etc
There are many salicylic acid based products out there on the market. But do they work to get rid of warts? These commercial products are available over the counter in most countries. They each come with their own set of directions to follow, but the procedure generally involves soaking the wart in warm water (this softens the skin so the the wart can more easily absorb the medicine), scraping with a foot file or pumice stone, applying the medicine onto the wart (being careful not to touch the surrounding skin, as this may cause painful acid burns) and covering. Each night (or as per the directions) the processes of soaking, scraping and applying is repeated.
Over the Counter "Freeze" Wart Removers
Such as Scholl Freeze Verruca and Wart Remover

These products are generally sold over the counter and require one (or more, read the directions carefully) application which "freezes" the wart. If effective the wart will fall off within 10-14 days and new skin will have grown underneath.
Aldara Cream to Get Rid of Planter Warts
(this is available with a prescription)
This prescription cream of 5% Imiquimod Cream is recommended as a 50% effective treatment by the physician. It is traditionally used in treating skin cancers, but often works for plantars warts by increasing the white blood cells to the area, thus allowing the body to attack the wart. Locally, it is used as a six week treatment.
Cryotherapy to Get Rid of Planter Warts
(Physician applied liquid nitrogen)

A spray of liquid nitrogen (very cold) by the doctor freezes the wart, and essentially kills the wart cells. Cryotherapy can causes the skin surrounding the wart to "burn" and often blister. The downsides to this method are that it often requires multiple visits and it is somewhat painful and often scary to children.
Extraction - Surgical Removal
This method is exactly what it sounds like. When all else fails, have you gone under the knife to get rid of planter warts?
Are There Other Conventional or Medical Treatments Which I Missed?
Please add them here, but do not spam!

Conventional or Alternative Treatment?
Which is Better to Get Rid of Plantar Warts?

Do Conventional / Medical or Alternative treaments work best to get rid of plantar warts?

Conventional Treatment - I prefer to go to a medical doctor
reds says:
I have warts for now three years on my hands and feet, which is extremely embarrassing. right now I am trying the 6 day trail duct tape on the feet, but i not should can you swim with duct tape on your feet or will it fall off.
lynn says:
Several treatments must be used in combination for large, resistant warts like the kind I have now and only a dermatologist was able to give me the instructions I needed for aggressive home care and perform a good freezing (soaking, scraping, acid, plasters, freezing, keeping air tight - daily care). What has never worked on a plantar wart of mine is only using acid or using non-sprayed liquid nitrogen. Also, freezing once and expecting the wart to die may not work. Sometimes, you need to be really aggressive or it will grow and you'll never get rid of it. Mine is 5 years old and the size of a quarter. I've gotten rid of others with only one treatment. Also tried the injection shot to summon the immune response - did nothing for my wart. I had one surgically removed but it returned a year later in same spot - very painful procedure and wouldn't do again.
The Kinf of Town says:
The thing with the freeze stuff from the store is don't follow the directions. You need to use it for 1-2 min. (I know it sounds nuts, but read reviews online and you'll see what I'm talking about.)
Pukeko says:
For us it was the conventional treatment that finally got rid of the warts.
simon says:
we have tried both and the medical ones worked best
Elizabeth says:
I had my wart frozen by the doctor three times and it keeps coming back -each time it gets bigger.
Alernative Treatment - I always start here
amyandtwo says:
My son had a wart on his thumb that we tried acid on and freezing but it still stayed just smaller and it hurt him badly. I recently started using doTERRA essential oils and found that frankincense is supposed to get rid of warts so I tried it out. I removed the top layer of skin the 1st day then rubbed one drop of the frankincense on it daily and in a week it was gone! I will never use anything else on warts!
Rughead123 says:

Rachel says:
I used cello tape to create a seal over the verruca, then a plaster to secure it further... I kept reapplying until the verruca came away, new skin had grown underneath.
Pat says:
The least painful method is with essential oils that I have tried. I do not have the recipe with me right now but there was tea tree, black pepper, bergamot and one more. These were mixed in 30 mls cold pressed oil. My grandkids come & say grandma mix me oils for my warts!! They love it.
CreativeArtist says:
My favorite is a wet cotton Q-tip end covered by a bandaid, applied nightly.
GroovyFinds says:
I swear by duct tape...Got rid of 2 on my heel.
Ladymermaid says:
When I was a child I had warts on the bottoms of my feet that were surgically removed. Gosh but I am so glad that procedures are less invasive now a days!
Pukeko says:
We always try alternative treatments first.

- I had a plantar wart once, years ago. i did try all the medical stuff and products. Even went to the doctor to have it burn (of freeze to death I don't remember). All failed until my mom's homeopath told we do use garlic. it worked. The wart literally died and fall within 2 weeks. Every night: you soak you feet in hot water (to soften the skin), then you rub with a pumice stone to remove dead skin. The you apply a small slice of garlic and hold in place for the night with a bandage. Make sure you place garlic ONLY on the wart, avoid as much as possible the skin because it will burn. Do that until it falls.

- Awesome article. First time I've actually ever seen a single lens about wart removal with this much info on it.
Had a wart problem of my own before. I started off researching what causes warts first, then looked up a bunch of natural remedies to eliminate the skin disorder.
Turned out that duct tape seemed to be the easiest and most cost-effective solution that worked for me..

- I actually had a plantar's wart when I was in high school and succumbed to foot surgery to cut it out ... eeeeeoooow but that needle surely hurt and it bled like crazy. Funny thing ... that is the very same foot that had surgery for a Morton's Neuroma. I hope to not have to deal with ANY warts again .... you know?

- I have used Dr. Sholls in the past with great results. I also try to take off my socks or slippers more often. My son had a very deep plantar wart and had the nitrogen treatment at the hospital. These warts can be a big nuisance. :)

- Great lens and I love the method you have used to get other's results. I haven't had this problem, but if I did, maybe I'd try Windex first.
Just kidding, but love the movie. :D

- Ok so there are about a billion different treatments out there and every single sufferer has their own opinion on what works. Personally, I have had success with only 2 products, one being a prescription pill and one being this: http://www.billsmedicals.info/hpv
A combination of both got me cleared up in just under 2 weeks.
1.Buy this http://www.billsmedicals.info/hpv
2.Go see your GP
Good luck.

- When I was a kid I had one on the tip edge of my pointer finger. We went to the doctor for another reason and while there we mentioned the wart. He numbed the finger and if I remember right he "burned" it off. But I don't see that listed here so maybe he froze it off. It was some 30 years ago so I forget. I do remember it HURTING and not wanting to do it.

- My son had one several years ago. Where do those things come from? Anyway, NOTHING made it go away and finally a trip to the doctor took care of it. He cut it out. It has a "root" (for lack of a better word) and it must be "plucked" away!

- When I was a teenager, I got these and I sympathize with you and your daugher.... they hurt. I did not use any of these methods you mentioned. I am so sorry that I cannot think of what the things I used were called. I can explain it though. They were square patches that I would cut out into the size I needed for each one and place it on the wart. It was given to me by my physician and they took care of them quickly. Once again I am sorry that I don't have a name for them but, perhaps the explanation to your family doctor will give him an idea as to what it is.
