I wish I had known when I started writing online what I now know about Internet marketing. I figured that you just wrote an article and the site took care of the rest ... ha... how wrong. Great article on increasing website traffic.

    Good points here. Thanks.

Is it really possible to create too many backlinks too quickly?
  • olpampam Jul 3, 2011 @ 10:09 pm | delete
I was just wondering, is blogging the same as article writing or is article writing something else altogether?
  • TamaraKajari Jul 6, 2011 @ 5:44 am | delete
Not quite the same, but very close when you look at the purpose i.e. quality backlinking. Articles you write are useful if published on respectable (hugely visited and well ranked) sites (Ezine, hub pages etc). Blogging is a bit easier, but you should also think about where you blog about your site i.e. where you promote your lenses or business or whatever.
  • poddys Jun 14, 2011 @ 3:32 pm | delete
Backlinks through blogging and social networking are my main method of promoting my sites, but I also write about my articles on other sites and put a different twist on things if I can to broaden my audience.
  • itsmuzza2011 Jun 5, 2011 @ 4:08 am | delete
dont gorget to get your backlinks out into all the forums in your niche, and dont forget to write good stuff about your site and people will follow onto your site, simple, great lens, always always promote yourself as no one else will do it for you

Thanks for not only the ideas but the explanations. Sometimes there are just tips and no explanations, but the explanations make the ideas suddenly register in my brain. OKAY, I will start writing articles after all. LOL.
  • zentao Mar 18, 2011 @ 1:12 pm | delete
I agree for traffic, particularly for organic traffic, keyword research is by far the most important factor.

Commenting, social networking and the like can certainly help a lot for the non-organic traffic and perhaps even getting links on people's sites if your information is quality
  • Ecosimon Mar 10, 2011 @ 5:15 pm | delete
Some good advice on traffic building, people must also take into consideration the power of backlinks to gain rankings. The sorry fact is that forum and blog comment spamming is still the most solid way to raise rankings and therefore increase traffic.

Thanks for the tips. I started 2 weeks or so ago. I badly needed them.
  • Peter.Murray Jan 28, 2011 @ 4:50 pm | delete
    Thanks for the tips.

However I don't understand why you think videos are good generators of traffic. You have the same problem of getting people to find and view the video as finding and viewing the website.

My Getting a haircut in Turkey YouTube video has over 77500 views and encourages viewers to visit my Getting a men's haircut in Turkey lens but very few follow through from the video to the lens (nearly 13000 visits).

Most of my lens traffic comes from linking to the lens on relevant sites, forums and blogs in the niche.

By creating a video and uploading it to youtube AKA "Google" and putting the embedded code on your relevant blog is what's called google juice.

It will get you higher search engine rankings.

You have really emphasized the basic free traffic generating methods we have at our disposal. I’m a big fan of articles; but videos are also very important. Thank you!
  • MTF-briguy Nov 10, 2010 @ 9:28 am | delete
Have to agree that watching a video is so much easier than reading a text. Very helpful lens!

I like SEO and get a kick whenever a blog post/page of mine reaches the first page of google. Have never tried article marketing. Tried to attract traffic for my site on Christmas Gifts. Thanx for sharing your thoughts. Once Christmas is over will try and create a few squidoo lenses on SEO. I think the most important part in SEO is content. Link building, Article Marketing, etc. all come after that. Truly unique and useful content will always rank higher than copied, duplicate content - no matter how heavily linked the promoted the latter is.
  • TamaraKajari Nov 10, 2010 @ 4:15 am | delete

I like to keep several "outposts" that link back to my sites. Tumblr, Buzz, Posterous, Twitter, several forums, a few eZine articles. I've yet to break out of my shell and start making more videos.

Very informative lens. I don't do a lot of promoting to get traffic. Mostly I use the tools that Squidoo provides, along with Twitter and FaceBook. I have yet to get into article writing or blogging, but that seems to be where I am going.

Web traffic (especially targeted) is definitely the lifeblood of any website or blog. I agree that good keyword research, along with quality content will make a huge difference. Also, I agree with regards to effectively using video. It is the wave of the future and I've been exploring various platforms for the past several months. Great tips!
