Ways to get fit without working out!

Ha, got ya. If you want to get fit you need to take action. This lens should help you to get started mentally, but it's up to you to get it to a physical level. Shoot some hoops for your health and don't go shopping for some whack fat loss pill, just get your a$s up! *end of motivational tough love*

I think everybody can relate to a situation where fitness and sports stood behind while we had loads of stress, were injured or simply gained weight. It's never to late to change your every day habits and get fit again.

This Lense focuses on what sports and fitness should be like...a way to a healthy lifestyle and a few intense, fun and challenging hours of exercise per week spend with the sport of your choice.

The best way to get fit is to find something you love to do rather than do something because you have to do it. Changing your life to the better is not about putting more stress into your life, it's about relief, passion and moving. Just a few natural things every human should experience, and sports usually improve the overall feeling you can have.

How to lose that weight - The Harris Benedict Equation

Out of all the obscure formula that are out there, this is the formula that shines out and really seems to help people who try to lose fat. You will need two things, first a table with the amounts of calories your nutrition contains, after 1-2 weeks of training you should be comfortable with the numbers and have a rough idea. I don't say to hit for a certain number at first, just track down what you eat.
After you have done this the next thing you should do is apply the harris benedict formula onto your situation. You wonder when will he show me this magic formula that will turn my life upside down... right now ;)
Remember this is only approximate, but a good rule of thumb! First of all ...

calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate:

Men: BMR = 66 + (13.7 X weight in kg) + (5 X hight in cm) - (6.8 X age in years)

Women: BMR = 655 + (9.6 X weight in kg) + (1.8 X hight in cm) - (4.7 X age in years)

This is how you calculate what your body is burning without the activities you pursue over the day. Now let's add the diversity each of us is going through:

Sedentary = BMR X 1.2 (little or no exercise, desk job, taxi to work, elevator to your room, just walking a few steps each day)
Lightly active = BMR X 1.375 (light exercise/work/sports up to 3 times a week)
Moderatly active = BMR X 1.55 (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 times a week)
Very active = BMR X 1.725 (hard exercise/work/sports up to seven days days/wk)
Extr. active = BMR X 1.9 (hard daily exercise/sports and a physical job or training twice per day)

Let's put this into work:

A 33 year old man who is 1.86 tall and weights 95 KG with a desk job and no exercise needs....
66 + 1301,5 + 940 - 238 = 2069,5 without exercise.
We can see now that light exercise is somewhere between 1.2 and 1.375, and multiply the 2069.5 with 1.25 and end up with 2586,875 kcal per day.

This is what this man has to eat per day to maintain his weight. In case he wants to gain weight he has to eat more than those 2586,8 kcal, in case he wants to lose weight he hast to either increase his exercise level OR eat less than 2586,8 kcal per day.

Overall you can say that this is a rule of thumb as your daily need varies a bit each day, but in case you want to lose weight calculate this and either work out as much as you can to compansate your eating habits OR eat about 200-300 calories less than you need to maintain your weight.

In any case when you want to change your style of life, have serious overweight or plan to be heavily active you should consult your doctor of choise. There are far to many people who die because they want to start to get fit without educating themselves enough.

Motivational Pictures

You don't have to lift weights or go running to be active. Funsports can be far more satisfying than hitting the gym for a lot people.
In case you hate going to the gym test a skateboard, inline skates, mountainbiking, surfing, BMX, whatever floats your boat. Outdoor sports are a great way to increase your overall fitness.
There are far too many fun sports to stick to something you hate to do.

How to get fit

Things to consider when you want to get fit

When you get in shape there is a lot of thought going into it- that's just wrong.
These a few steps that will help you getting fit! You just have to commit yourself and really want to achieve it.

  • Make a plan and write down why you want to lose weight

  • Create simple steps that you have to take to achieve this goal in the long run.
For example ...eat 1 week clean food....
....working out 3 times a week.....
....going for a walk every day.

  • Find people that support you and keep a journal where you track your progress.

  • In case you want to lose weight add some motivational pictures of your progress, for example a picture from the front every month. Or add some pictures of physiques you look up do and want to look like.

  • Don't use a scale more than once a month! You will only be dissapointed by small weight losses, instead check how you proceed in the long run. This is no sprint, it's a marathon. ;)

Foods to Fuel your Fitness

Food is deeply connected with fitness. In case you work out 5 times a week, but eat a lot of crap you are bound to make just some half hearted progress and might even wreck your body with bad nutrition and overtraining.

Eating the right foods is great for your health, can help you losing fat and will probably give you more energy. I am not advising you to count calories here if you don't want to, just make more and more smart choices along the way and you will feel mentally and physically better!

How much Sports is healthy?

First of all, there is no general rule of how much you should do to be fit and funny. First of all, too much is never good, not enough on the other hand won't bring you the results you are looking for. First of all you should consult your doctor and see what your state of the art body can do.

The Beginner
In case you are just starting out you should do something every day. Yes you read right, every day. Go for a walk, take the bike to buy your pizza, just some short action, 30 minutes to an hour where you just get accustomed to doing something. Additionally it would be recommended to do some sort of sports you like. 2-4 times a week 30 to 90 minutes with some medium level of intensity. Just get yourself accustomed to your body and what you can do with it. You should really aim to do some weightlifting support your fitness and jumpstart the fatloss. A whole body workout done twice to three times a week with moderate weights is great for starters.

The Intermediate
The intermediate should work out roughly as much as the beginner, but he should aim for some higher intensity workouts. For example HIT training, Sprints or longer Runs.
In case you are into weight lifting weights you can consider swtiching to body part training days, or some other funny, but very challenging things. In case you have no clue about lifting, go and get a trainer for 1 or 2 session and then let him review your training a few months later.

Dancing to get fit

Dancing is a great and fun way to get fit. Watch some of the most challenging dances to ever hit a dancefloor... Breakdance....
