Ten Ways to Find Inspiration

When you are inspired life takes on a brighter hue. Inspiration leads you to take action. Great visionaries found ways to inspire themselves to push on when every one said no. In this Lens I offer you some sources of inspiration in the way of reading, links to inspirational posts, ans ways to find inspiration. There is magic in the world and one way to find it is by being inspired.

The Top Ten Ways I Find Inspiration

Books Inspire1. Books

As I write I am looking at a book case full of inspirational books. I find more inspiration in the words of others than I do in any other form. For me it can be just the beauty of the way words go together to a finely wrought piece of poetry to a story about someone overcoming all the odds.

One of those books is The Book of Awakening written by Mark Nepo. There are many more, I guess that would be the subject of another Squidoo Lens

2. Inspirational Musical Videos

There is something special about the combination of voice, words and music that can lift the soul, put a smile on your face, and a dance in your feet. Below is one of my favorite inspirational videos.

3.Movies

I have been moved so deeply by movies that inspired me, and I am sure you have too. There are so many I am not sure what would be up there as my all time favorite: A River Runs Through It and Sunshine to name two. How about you? What are your favorite inspirational movies?

4 Nature

Beauty Surrounds Us

The Butterfly and the FlowerI have always been surrounded by beauty. Beauty is a state of mind. From the smallest thing...like the pattern of frost on a puddle to the majesty of towering mountains to the vast silence beauty of the night sky. Nature is part of the mystery that is in us all.

5. Gardening

the Inspiration of the Earth

From my spring gardenNothing confirms our place in world that digging in the dirt, watching things grow out of tiny specks into to something beautiful before your eyes with the knowledge that you contributed your abilities to the creation of beauty in the world.

6. Food

the Taste of Heaven

Beef and feta stuffed bell peppersFood inspires in subtle ways, especially when we talk of simple purity. One of my favorite all time recipes has only five ingredients. To me Olive Oil confirms the existence of God.

7 Writing

Letting the Inspiration Through

With writing the joy is the combination of letters into words that form sentences that some how transform their mere physical attributes into joy, or sadness, pleasure or pain, to inspire and depress. When the magic happens and words become inspiration, that's when I am most inspired. Here is a poem that came to me fully born right from the heart of source.

Inspiration:

Are you into sharing,
My thoughts and my caring,
My dancing half crazy with love.
For the big things, the small things,
For all things, for all times,
The good times and bad times,
The sunshine, and rainbows,
The colors in dewdrops,
And splashy bright neon,
With watermelon flavours,
And lemon lime too,
Like acid explosions,
Of silky smooth satins,
Of feelings, and joy,
And lingering sorrow,
Your hand in my hand,
Fingertips touching,
With heat and the warmth
Exchanging the flowing,
Of blood and soft tissue
To bliss and oblivion,
Are you into sharing,
My thoughts and my caring
My dancing half crazy with love?

8. Silence

The Center from Which All Inspiration Flows

Silence is a rare commodity in our modern world, to be feared more that worshiped. We seem to spend out live in a mad
frenetic search for sound rather than silence...but more me nothing is as profound as the deep abiding silence behind all things.
See the guided meditation on Silence below.

9 Love

The Inspiration of the Heart

Love inspires in so many ways, the joining of two vast souls in some uniting source cannot be compared to any other experience alive. Love in all it's many manifestations has inspired some of our greatest creations.

Love has no desire but to fulfill itself. To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving. ~Kahlil Gibran

10. The Mystery

The Mystery is the Inspiration

That is the name I use for the most inspiring quality of all. The mystery is the center of all life..the source of all things...yet forever beyond our physical plain only to be grasped on the edges of full consciousness...that moment of full awakening that you can be part of the mystery...that you are the mystery...which can only be accepted...but never understood

Spending time outside inspires me - whether taking photos, going for walks, enjoying a sunset or watching waves crash along the shore. Books, music and quotes have inspired me, as well, but I find the greatest inspiration comes during moments of silence when I have the opportunity to pay more attention to the feelings embedding themselves deeply in my soul.

In the perennial best-seller Art & Fear, Ted Orland (with David Bayles) examined the obstacles that artists encounter each time they enter their studio and stand before a new blank canvas. Now, in The View From The Studio Door, Orland turns his attention to broader issues that stand to either side of that artistic moment of truth.

In a text marked by grace, brevity and humor, Orland argues that when it comes to art making, theory and practice are always intertwined. There are timeless philosophical...
