Is Getting Pregnant After A Miscarriage Any Different Than Getting Pregnant The First Time?
Is Getting Pregnant After Miscarriage any more different from getting pregnant for the first time? Well the answer is YES and NO.
NO-in the sense that you know what you did to conceive the first time, so all you have to do is repeat the process to conceive the second time.
But the answer is also YES because you now need to understand why you miscarried the first time and and if possible try to rectify the issue before trying the second time around.
Technically, a miscarriage is the loss of a pregnancy before the first 24 weeks....after 24 weeks it is called a still birth.
There are many medical explanations for why miscarriages happen. Some of these reasons will cause the woman to have a miscarriage just once but others may lead to recurring miscarriages.
They are:
1. Infections
2. Endocrine Problems
3. Uterine Abnormalities
4. Genetics(Chromosomes)
5. Antibodies(Immune System)
6. Medical Disorders

Some doctors advice that you wait at least till you have undergone 3 menstrual cycles others say wait for 6 months. The decision is Really Yours To Make. If you are too devastated and want to mourn the loss of your pregnancy then please do so.
But if you want to make the most of a bad situation, then use the gift mother nature has blessed you with by making you more fertile after a miscarriage and try conceive straight away. You could wait a one menstrual cycle and go for it.
Also once you have had one miscarriage the next one is considered high risk but if you take the steps as detailed in Lisa Olson's Book should help you reduce your chances of having a second miscarriage.

How To Gently Alleviate Grief And Guilt If You Have Suffered A Miscarriage
Conventional therapies suggest you take better care of yourself physically and emotionally following a loss but this may seem impossible if you feel your coping mechanisms are overwhelmed.
You may also feel guilt for what has happened or start to believe that you don't deserve better. This may lead to depression for which your doctor may prescribe anti-depressants. Luckily there is another option.
EFT( Emotional Freedom Technique) is a form of acupuncture that you can do yourself. It will help to balance the body's energy system and resolve emotional pain and has been proven to be affective in 80% of cases.
If you are looking to get pregnant after a miscarriage but find that you are emotionally disturbed then try this natural therapy.
One Common Cause Of Miscarriage Is Foetal Abnormalities
How To Prevent It by Getting Enough Folic Acid.
One reason that medical science gives for miscarriage is chromosomal damage also known as foetal abnormalitiesThis simply means that the chromonsomes did not develop as it should in the woman's womb and therefore had to be shed.
Once You have decided to try again for another baby, it is important that you start prenatal care. This means taking prenatal vitamins rich in many nutrients like calcium, iron and folic acid.
Folic Acid is especially important in the first few weeks of pregnancy in order to prevent birth defects.
The recommended daily amount is 400 micrograms. Also make sure that you are eating foods rich in folic acid. Leafy greens are a perfect source.
Some Miscarriages Are Caused By Progesterone Deficiency
Medical Science has proven that women who don't produce enough progesterone in early pregnancy may have repeated miscarriages. These sort of miscarriages can be prevented by taking natural progesterone supplements.
Did you know that synthetic progesterone is actually called progestin. Progestin is so dangerous that if you are taking it in the first stages of pregnancy that there is a high likelyhood that spontenous abortion will occur?
So if you are looking to get pregnant after miscarriage then be sure to ask your doctor to test whether you are progesterone deficient and Always Always choose natural progesterone and never go for the synthetic version because that may do more harm than good.
Another Cause Of Miscarriages - Antibodies (Immune System)
Your Body Wants To Keep Your Baby Till Term - Here is How To Help It
Another reason that science gives for recurring miscarriages is that of the mother producing antibodies that in essence rejects her fetus.
The most common forms of treatments are prescribing baby aspirin, prescription anti-inflammatory and anticlotting drugs, immunoglobulins and a new drug called Enbrel.
But the truth is that your body is designed to keep the baby till term; you can encourage and facilitate that natural process!
You need to repair your body and get it back to it's natural state where is it happy and ready to carry your baby to term, but most importantly you need to know how to time conception correctly so that it is a healthy egg is fertilised.

Yet Another Cause of Miscarriages - Incompetent Cervix
Yet another cause of miscarriages, although this tends to happen much later in the pregnancy is Incompetent Cervix.
This is when the cervix of the pregnant woman starts to dilate at around 20 weeks as her womb get bigger.
The condition is often characterised by a sudden loss of pregnancy without any pain whatsoever, but at other times the woman might experience labour pains.
To prevent premature delivery, doctors generally stitch the cervix anywhere from 14 weeks and may even request that pregnant lady be bedridden for the rest of her pregnancy.
I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to comment on this topic. I have just read, sadly about one of our readers who had a miscarriage at around 20weeks (her daughter lived for about an hour and a half before she passed on) due to an incompetent cervix. I will be praying for you

Blood Disorders, Fibroids and Gene Defects
3 other Reasons Why You May Suffer A miscarriage
Research has shown that around 20% of recurrent miscarriages are as a result of blood disorders such as lupus and Hughes Syndrome.Blood disorders such as these can cause blood clots to form in the developing placenta, - the channel that transports food from the mother to the unborn child.
Uterine fibroids can also cause some women to have miscarriages, although some women with fibroids have gone on to successfully have children.
Some parents also carry gene defects which may affect the unborn child and stop its growth.
Other structural issues that may cause a woman to suffer a miscarriage include uterine scarring, a heart -shaped (bicornuate or double) uterus,or a unterine septum (band of tissue running down the middle of the uterus)
Fibriods
Why and How They Can Cause Miscarriage
What Exactly Are Fibroids? These are firm lumps, often begnin, that grow inside and outside the uterus.
They can affect women of any ages; as many as 40% of women over 35 have them. Many women are not aware of them , but in small percentages, they cause problems including issues with fertility.
It is thought that they get iin the way of the process by which the egg implants in the unterine linning.
They can also block the Fallopian tube and prevent the egg from being fertilized.
Fibroids are diagnosed through routine examination or by pelvic ultrasound.
Symptoms of fibroids include:
1. abdominal pain
2. heavy bleeding
3. bloating
4. Urinary issues: pressure from the fibroids on your bladder can make you need to go more often.
5. bowel problems; as above, the pressure can also cause constipation
There are a number of treatment options
1. Surgery
2. Uterine Artery Embolization (sometimes referred to as UAE)
3. Hormone Treatments
If however your fibroids are not causing you pain, or are not large many doctors will advise that you leave them alone.

How Eating Wheat May Contribute To Some Miscarriages
Celiac Disease Has Been Linked With Miscarriages
It is usually caused by a reaction to gluten ( a type of protein) found in wheat, barley, oats and rye. This protein affects the linning of the small intestine which is responsible for absorbing the nutrients from your food.
If you have suffered a miscarriage or several recurrent miscarriages, then it is possible that you have undetected celiac disease. If your body is unable to absorb the nutrients it needs e.g folic acid, vitamins and minerals then conception or even the sustainance of a pregnancy could be difficult.
Celiac disease has also been linked to birth defects in children whose mothers could not absorb folic acid while pregnant.
Symptoms of this disease include diarrhea, abdominal distention and fatigue, pale, loose or greasy stool. It is also possible to have a milder form of the disease in which case you would not have any symptoms.
As a first step get your self checked out. If it so happens that you have celiac disease then all you have to do is avoid gluten completely from your diet and the problem will resolve itself naturally

Lifestyle Checks. Eating For A Healthy Pregnancy
How You Live Your Life Will Have An Effect On The Quality Of Your Eggs.
Inevitably, the way you live your life will have an impact on your fertility and the quality of your eggs. Alcohol, excessive stress, exercise (or lack of it) work and of course a healthy diet will all affect your chances of conceiving again. You have probably heard it a million times but this point can never be overemphasied - a healthy diet is important for a healthy pregnancy. Nutrition is the key building block of fertility and by giving careful consideration to what you eat and making changes where necessary you will boost your chances of getting pregnant again.
Food nourishes us in so many ways and at many different levels, not just sustenance. It feeds our senses and emotions. The smell, sight, touch, and taste of food excites and satisfies us and depriving yourself of this can make you feel low, frustrated which can raise your levels of stress hormones. None of these negative emotions is conducive to good health or sustaining a healthy pregnancy
Pregnancy places a lot of demand on your body and you need to equip it the best way you can. 9 months is a long time (I can testify to that!) and eating well right from the beginning will stand you in good stead when the baby hormones start flooding your body.
Rather than focusing on specific foods, aim for a sensible eating plan, including nuts, vegetables, healthy oils, fruits and plenty of whole fibre.
A Deficiency Of Vitamin B12 May Endanger Your Pregnancy
Vitamin B12 plays an important role in the nervous system and the development of new tissue, and is also crucial in ovulation. Women who are deficient of this vitamin may not ovulate or a fertilised egg may fail to develop.
The good news is that this problem is easy to fix with waht is known as Vitamin therapy. In study of 10 women who were deficient in this vitamin, 6 went on to conceived almost immediately after starting the therapy.
One woman had suffered seven miscarriages before doctors discovered that she was deficient in vitamin B12. This woman went on to have three children once the problem was corrected.
So if you are trying to Getting Pregnant After Miscarriage or miscarriages it is worth checking that Vitamin B12 deficiency is not the issue for you.
Erythromycin
The Antibiotic That Can Prevent Miscarriage
In addition to causing infertility, some bacterial infections can also cause miscarriage and these include but not limited to Ureaplasma urealyticum, and group B streptococci. Some viruses also cause miscarriage and examples of these include rubella, cytomegalovirus.
Most recently, a bacteria known as Listeria has also been linked to pregnancy loss and it often shows up in undercooked meat or poorly pasteurized dairy products, as well as some raw vegetables.
Another new bacteria, known as camylobacter - normally known to cause only gastroenteritis - is now thought to cause miscarriage as well. It too can result from undercooked meat.
Ideally all infections should be treated long before you get pregnant, but because some of these infections are difficult to detect, it is advisable to have a routine treat of antibiotics, especially if you have experienced several unexplained miscarriages.
The medication of choice is erythromycin because it is safe for both mom and baby. The recommended dosage is 33mg taken two or three times a day, beginning 7 to 10 days before you plan to get pregnant and continuing for 6 to 8 weeks into the first trimester.

Aspartame - The Sweet Enemy?
Aspartame is an artificial sweetener or sugar substitute (common names include Nutra Sweet and Canderel). It is usually added to anything "diet", such as fizzy drinks, as well as "sugar-free" gums and breath fresheners. There has been much controversy over whether aspartame is safe, particularly in America, where some doctors have citied aspartame as a cause of infertility in animals. In a letter to a campaigning group, Children of the New Earth, Dr Madelson Price states:
"I showed (in rodents) that both amino acids [aspartame and glutamate] freely enter the arcuate nucleus and (at low dose) cause inappropriate release of hormones and at high dose actually destroy these regulatory neurons. That is why dysfunction is associated with aspartame and MSG. If enough arcurate neurons are lost, that dysfunction is ireversible. Rodents that ingest high levels of aspartate or glutamate, when young become infertile adults.
Aspartame has also been implicated in miscarriages and a whole range of other health problmes, so my advice is very straighforward...... AVOID IT.
Sluggish Thyroid Has Been Linked To Miscarriages
The researchers who studied 9,000 women, discovered that:
1. Pregnant women with elevated levels of thyroid stimulating hormone,(TSH) had a 3.8% chance of late miscarriage while
2. Expectant mothers who did not have any elevation of TSH, had only 0.9% risk of losing their pregnancy.
The Risk Of Miscarriage Therefore Increased As The Levels of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone Increased
According to the research findings, 6 out of every 100 miscarriages could be directly linked to a thyroid problem and therefore early detection and treatment of maternal hypothyroidism is crucial.
Some of the symptoms of an underlying thyroid issue which may lead to miscarriages includes:
1. unexplained weight gain,
2. dryness of hair, nails and skin,
3. sensitivity to cold and difficulty warming up,
4. mood changes,
5. constipation,
6. poor memory
7. menstrual disturbances and
8. frequent exhaustion.
So it worth getting yours checked out just so that you can rule out the possibility completely.
2 Foods To Avoid If You Are Planning To Get Pregnant Again.
Fish High In Mercury And Caffeine Are A NO, NO.
This is because these fish live a long time and so the mercury levels in them can be more concentrated that other types of fish that don't live for that long.
Excessive consumption of these types of fish can lead to excessive mercury in your blood stream.
Worse still, did you know that mercury can linger in your body for more than 12 months?
So if getting pregnant after miscarriage is what you are aiming for switch to lower mercury fish like salmon, herring, trout and sardines.
Canned Fish Should Be Avoided Too Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health in the United States found that women who ate the most canned fish tended to have more mercury in their body.
The other food you need to really cut down on is caffeine. Experts generally agree that low to moderate caffeine comsumption i.e. about a cup or at most three cups of coffee a day won't affect your ability to get pregnant, but you are better off cutting it out completely just to be on the safe side.
I know it can be a little difficult, but try switching to decaf to start with. So if you would normally have 2 cups of coffee a day, you can have your regular coffee in the morning and have the decaf in the afternoon.
Your ultimate aim should be to get rid of it completely for the sake of your unborn baby.
Can Strenuous Exercise Cause Miscarriage?
The suggestion is that vigorous high-impact exercise within the first few months of pregnancy was associated with the highest risk of miscarriage.
The connection is with your body temperature, which is naturally higher when you are pregnant and extremely vigorous workouts can quickly and easily bring your body heat into the danger zone.
When your body overheats, your baby overheats as well, but with one important difference. While your system allows excess heat to escape through your skin, your baby has no such opportunity to cool down, so he or she remains hotter for longer.
When the heat is excessive for a long period of time, as in an earobic dance class lasting an hour or more, your baby can grow so hot that a miscarriage spontaneously occurs.
It is important that you bear in mind that the aim of exercise is to improve the four Ss;
Strength,
Stamina,
Suppleness and
Skill.
At any age and in any condition these can be achieved without high impact, vigorous exercise, which always carries a risk especially for pregnant women.
Bottom line is, to be on the safe side especially if you have recenlty suffered a miscarriage, avoid high impact exercise (gentle exercise such as walking and swimming are ideal)
Everyday Toxins - Pesticides, Herbicides And Contaminants
How They Affect Fertility and Increase The Risk Of Miscarriage.
Not to mention those we absorb through our skin in make-up, hair dyes and household cleaning products (along with possible radition from mobile phones or VDU's.)
When you pile your plates with vegetables you get a load of nutrients important for fertility and sustaining a pregnancy but you may also be piling on the pesticides, insecticides and other chemicals used to protect crops from bugs, rodents and bacteria.
Pesticides are potent, extremely toxic chemical that can interfere with hormonal health in both you and your partner.
You need to reduce your exposure to pesticides if you are trying concieve after miscarriage. For example go organic with all your fruits and vegetables and make sure you are getting enough fibre because it helps to prevent the absorption of toxins.
Are You Over or Under Weight?
Because It Matters
This is because your body senses it does not have enough fat stores to sustain pregnancy. Secondly, because levels of oestrogen and progesterone drops significantly, your so ovulation is affected and chances are you may not be ovulating in every menstrual cycle.
If you are overweight with a BMI of over 25, you will have a high percentage of body fat. These fat cells produce excessive levels of oestrogen and progesterone which again affect fertility and the ability to sustain a pregnancy.
So the bottom line is that you have to be within a healthy BMI i. e between 20 and 25.
Complementary Therapies
Using Herbal Medicine To Boost Your Fertility
One of the rising complementary therapies used in conception and fertility is Herbal Medicine.Herbs have been traditionally used as fertility enhancers for centuries in many parts of the world and the use of agnus castus as a fertility herb has seen a dramatic rise in western countries.
However, other herbs have great power to relieve stress, encourage relaxation and therefore boost increase your chances of sustaiing your pregnancy. These include passionflower, chamomile and wild oat.
Passion flower is considered one of the best tranquillising herbs because it is non-addictive and allows you to wake up feeling refreshed.
Chamomile is a gentle and trusted relaxant of the nervous system and a popular and trusted relaxant and is a safe remedy for stress related issues, anxiety, tension and insomnia all of which can affect your ability to carry a pregnancy to term.
It is important that you check wtih your doctor before you start using herbal remedies
Is Your Mind On Your Side?
One of the biggest and most common problems is when your mind - consciously or unconsciously decides to work against you.
Outwardly you may appear happy, balanced and self confident but inwardly it is possible that you are fearable, anxious, worried, confused and with a lot of buried emotions.
In chinese medicine the heart is directly linked to the womb and each can impact on the other.
There are a number of techniques you can use to deal with emotional issues that may be standing in the way of your fertility and your ability to carry your pregnancy to term.
1. Stop complaining. When you complain you see things through a negative filter. Often the reason you are complaining is that you feel frustrated and complaining somehow makes you feel as if you are "getting things off your chest"
The truth is that complaining does not relieve you of frustration it only serves to grind you further into a rut, especially if you are looking to get pregnant after a miscarriage.
2. Appreciate what you have: This is one way to train your mind to concentrate on the positive. Try to spend 3 to 5 minutes of everyday scribbling down all the things that you are grateful for and happy about. This simple exercise will help you become more upbeat about life and believe me good things happen to positive people.
Essential Fatty Acids (EFA)
Important For Conceiving Healthy Children
There are generally divided into two groups - omega 3 and omega 6, but it is essential that you get a good balance of both.
Omega 3 - is found in oild fish and is excellent for reducing inflammation and can be found in foods such as walnuts and flax.
As we talked about earlier, you need to bear in mind that some oily fish have mercury e.g tuna and you should therefore eat them sparingly.
Omega 6 - A good source of this EFA is evening primrose oil and blackcurrant seed oil. Blackcurrant seed oil also has a higher level of GLA (gamma linolenic acid)
So as you are trying to conceive after a miscarriage, make sure you include good quality EFA's in your diet.
Siberian Ginseng
An Excellent Herb To Use If You Are Under Stress of Any Kind
It is classed as an adaptogen because it provides energy when required and helps to combat stress and fatigue when the body is under pressure.
It also helps to encourage the normal functioning of the adrenals and acts as a tonic to these glands.
So if you are experiencing any form of stress, then it might be worth you trying it as getting your body functioning at it's optimum is crucial if you are looking to get pregnant after miscarriage
Are You Getting Enough Sleep?
Lack Of Sleep Has Been Shown To Affect Hormone Secretion
Sleep is so important and a lack of enough sleep can have a detrimental effect on the normal functioning of both your body and mind.If you don't get enough sleep you can fall ill, may have difficulty healing, have reduced concentration and find it difficult to think properly and exercise good judgment.
It is also certainly known that lack of sleep and changes in time zones due to travel can interfere with your menstrual cycle. All these factors are crucial if you are trying to get pregnant.
Research suggests that the average adult needs about 7 to 9 hours of sleep and that fewer than 6 hours of sleep a night will affect congnitive functioning.
Simple steps you can take to improve the quality and quantity of your sleep include: not eating late at night, not working too late, going to bed early and reducing the use of electrical equipment in your bedroom.

- Great info but I wish you had cover one of the reasons is that nothing you did cause a m/c. I had a m/c for my second and the doctor said there was nothing I did to cause it. The risks and warning signs you wrote about - I had none of those. I was healthy and was told that sometimes it's nature's way to tell you that it's not your time yet. It was the worst thing that happened to me (tears still come down every time I think about her) but I realized if that didn't happen, then I wouldn't have my other beautiful children. Things happen for a reason - you just have to go on and look forward to more positive things.

Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)
Avoid At All Costs
Also known as MSG, Monosodium Glutamate is an artificial additive and flavour enhancer which thickens food and sauces and has a starchy, faintly papery taste with a sharp aftertaste.Recent studies show that rats fed MSG, had shorter body length, tended to be overweight and had reduced fertility levels.
My advice to you is to always read the labels, because some products use MSG as bulking agents and they include stock cubes, packaged soups, seasoning mixtures, barbecue and some soy sauce, salad dressings, ready meals, tinned meats and some crisps
Because MSG has been proven to affect fertility, you should avoid it at all cost if you are looking to get pregnant after a miscarriage.
The Effect of Electrical Equipment on Your Ability to Sleep
Good Sleep Is Important For Healthy Pregnancy
It is important that you don't underestimate the effect of having too much electrical equipment in your bedroom and its effect on your ability to conceive.
A patient of mine, was having trouble sleeping and when she did sleep it was lightly. As to be expected she was getting increasingly irritable and exhausted
With a little digging from my part, it emerged that she had more electrical equipment in her bedroom than an outlet of Best Buy!
In addition to the TV, she used laptop in bed, charged her phone next to her head, and around the bed she had a radio, a cd and dvd player.
All were either on or on standby at night while she slept. With their red lights shinning into the night, I was convinced that all the eletromagnetic activity would interfered with sleep and so suggested that she unplug it all and see what happens.
Not surprisingly she was "cured" immediatley.
So, go ahead, and check your bedroom, does it look an an electrical shop? And even after you have conceived would you want to risk having all that electromagnetic current in your bedroom?

Smoking
How It Harms Your Baby
A 1998 chinese study carried out on the health of children whose father smoked discovered that 30% of those children are likely to develop cancer.Ironically the length of time the father smoked, had a greater impact on the children's cancer rate than the number of cigarette smoked.
Addittionally, other studies reveal that the death rate among newborns was nearly 50% higher when their father smoked and that birth defects were also a lot higher.
But the good news is that if your partner quits and remains cigarette free for just 6 months before you attempt to conceive again, your chances of having a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby significantly increases.
In addition, it is important that you avoid smoke filled rooms and second hand smoke because new evidence show that secondhand smoke can nearly be as detrimental as smoking a cigarette yourself.
Avoiding secondhand smoke during the critical early stages of pregnancy can help you avoid many serious complications, incuding abnormal placenta implantation and early miscarriage
