Now You Need to Get Traffic
For those of you who have worked hard to make a great lens, here are some steps to help you get some traffic. It's not instant; it takes time to build good traffic, and you have to keep working at it. Be patient.

This is MY to-do list for new lenses. This lens is here to help me remember what to do after I publish. It's mainly for my use, but feel free to read it. I'll be adding to it as I learn more. Also, there are lots of really good lenses out there on getting traffic.

You need to get the word out to the world that you have a terrific new lens. Where to start? I once thought about putting a magnetic sign on the side of my car, so that everyone would see it and come visit. I really do this with one of my main sites that's meant to be local, but it won't work for every new lens that I build. Besides, I want more exposure than just the folks here around town.
Submit Your Lens to Social Bookmarking and Networking Sites
- Digg
- Easy to use, but it takes a while to build up enough of a following to bring you much traffic. An occasional lens of mine gets a lot of non-fan traffic, but most of it is from my "friends."
- Stumbleupon
- I apparently abused my privileges at Stumbleupon. For some time,I haven't been able to submit anything. I read somewhere that if submit too many urls with the same domain name, it redflags. Ooops.
- Haven't tried this yet, but I'll be exploring it. I've heard mixed reviews.
- Stumpedia
- "The Human-Powered Search Engine"
- Gather
- Post short articles and review the posts of others.
- Technorati
- I have't used this. Need to explore.
Some Social Sites are Just for Squidoo Lenses
- Lensroll.com
- Friendly and easy to use. Submit your lenses and vote for others' lenses that you like.
- Squidirectory
- Not a social site as far as I can tell, but a good backlink.
- Squoogle
- Good directory for lenses.
- Squidom
- Just for lenses.
- Isle of Squid
- Created by Captain Squid, another great backlink.
- LensmasterWorld
- Don't know much about this yet, I've just joined.
- Squiddix
- Mixx for Squidoo.
- Squiddit
- Reddit for Squidoo.
Create More Traffic and Backlinks by Blogging
- SquidTop
- You can visit my new blog at Bee's Bits.
- Typepad
- Don't know much about this. Some lensmasters love it.
- Blogger
- I've used this. Simple. I've heard that you can be locked for having too many repeats of one domain name (like Squidoo). That seems like a problem if you're trying to promote lenses.
- Rocking the Squid
- I need to explore this more.
Post Around the Web
- Yahoo Answers
- Find some questions that you can answer.
- Squidaholic
- Squidaholic always has recent blog posts regarding your lens. Scan it often to look for the right opportunity.

- Hi, Bee
Great 'checklist.' Yahoo Answers is great but you have to be really careful to follow their policies! Don't answer too many questions and don't post the same URL too often.
