Tolerance - Is The Result of Kindness, Goodness & Grace

Getting Better, with Tolerance.

My own personal saying "Kindness breeds Tolerance", and I also feel This Poster says it well: "Kindness is an Act of Grace"... and of course, personally believe that "Tolerance is the Result of Kindness, Goodness & Grace" (a little saying I put together especially for this lens).

This world is our home, we all live here, and we all deserve the best from each other.

Below you'll find a few of my Poems on Tolerance, Perspective, & Goodness, as well as some choice songs and links promoting a kinder message.

I wish all your flowers grow,
Barb (aka, Brite-Ideas)

Tolerance Poem

Tolerance

Hold my hand
then judge me
Or better
Feel my sameness,
Look me in the eye
then tell me I don't matter
Or better
See I am you,
Sit at my dinner table
Sharing food and conversation
then tell me I'm not worthy
Or better
Understand my hunger is like yours,
Take a walk with me
then hate where I live
Or better
Understand my plight,
Watch my children play
and tell me they are expendable
Or better
Love them as your own,
As I hold your hand
Look in your eyes
Eat at your table
Walk with you
Understand your plight
And watch your children play
I know I want to be better too

Your Opinion is Wanted about Tolerance!

So, What do You Think..Is the World a Tolerant Place?

Loading

Yes, I Believe that, in general and for the most part, most people are Tolerant of Other People's Beliefs and Differences

nancycarol says:

Sometimes, and sometimes not. It depends on the particular situation. I can tolerate other people's feelings, politics, religion and sexual orientation. I cannot tolerate cruelty to and abuse of people or animals. Some things are tolerable, some are not.

Tipi says:

I think people do the best they know how in the area of tolerance but there is so much room for us all to stretch and grow. We need to go beyond what is politically correct and popular.

ShirlW says:

Well I have a foot on both sides here, but I'll learn towards the yes column as that is how it should be.

Brite-Ideas says:

Yes, I think people are mostly good people, or try to be

No, Sorry I Believe that, in general and for the most part, most people are NOT Tolerant of Other People who Are Different and Who have Different Beliefs

clouda9 says:

I sure wish people in this world were more tolerant and accepting, sadly it's not so. And tolerance boils down to the simplest of things really...choosing your attitude and your reactions.

Frischy says:

I think it goes back to a time when people lived in tribes and clans, and anything foreign was a potential threat. There is still something in us that reacts that way and we must intentionally rise above it. A lot of us think we are doing that when we really are not. I think we all have biases whether we are aware of them or not, and most prejudiced people do not think they are prejudiced. The first step in overcoming it is to face that you have unwanted biases.

BarbRad says:

There is a place for tolerance and in most instances, it's the best attitude. But we should not tolerate injustice or tyranny. We should be tolerant of other people's beliefs unless those beliefs cause them to commit acts that hurt other people.

CCGAL says:

Tolerating something is a far cry from unconditional acceptance. I guess what we see depends a lot on how we filter our information. I have seen far too much intolerance and hate in my life to be able to say the world is a kind and loving place. Thank goodness there are pockets of peace and places where one can be loved unconditionally. I wish there were more of each.

NYtoSCimjustme says:

If people were more tolerant of others, then there wouldn't be war, or the need to police guard funerals due to protestors shouting at the mourning families of soldiers... the list could grow - but you get the picture. We need much more tolerance. Until we do there will never be peace.

Self Awareness

An Original Poem

Buddha Profile

I can't judge you
I'm too busy judging myself
I can't hate you
I'm too busy learning about myself
I can't envy you
I'm too busy competing with myself
I can't expect anything from you
I'm too busy expecting the best from myself
I can love you
By loving myself

From Your Perspective

What do you want me to know about you
I'm interested in your life
You're journey is my teacher
I'm wrong about so much
How can I make your day better
Show me what I can do
I am a willing spirit

Tolerance Poetry by Various Artists/Writers - My Personal Picks

If You're Looking for More Poetry on Tolerance, here are 3 Excellent Choices

Drageda.com's Personal Tolerance Poetry Picks by other Artists

Goodbye to Tolerance, by Denise Levertov: This third verse in this poem hit me right between the eyes. I can understand why she wrote this and how Tolerance in it's most mediocre form can be reduced in this way.

Tolerance by Egal Bohen: This poem has a powerful message. It talks about what we really see, and can actually do about the lack of tolerance in the world versus just screaming about it. We may complain about intolerance, but our actions are the healing, not our screaming voices.

Tolerance, by Thomas Hardy: What would be a personal pick without a famous Thomas Hardy Poem. If you read the comments after this poem, you'll see that many students reference, and write about this poem in their selection of works for school.

Being a white, protestant female I have heard my share of prejudicial remarks
and jokes about minorities. The instigators of these remarks expect me to agree and/or laugh along with them. I am proud to say I never have. Now I go one step
further; I look the person in the eyes and ask "My God, how can you stand to think that way?" Perhaps one of them may think about what they have said and decide to change; perhaps not. At the very least I am part of the solution, not part
of the problem. Don't ever believe the smallest of actions do not make a difference for the good.
