Getting off your BUT
This article describes the live presentation from Sean Stephenson seen at the Lifepath Unlimited Breakthrough V event, the presentation highlighted his new book Get Off Your "But": How to End Self-Sabotage and Stand Up for Yourself
I was honored to have gotten the chance to see Sean speak live and in person in Cancun Mexico. He was spectacular, he was humorous, he was inspirational and he was motivating.
Sean Stephenson Introduces Himself
Shows the audience he is UNSTOPPABLE
Sean spoke about himself, gave some background about himself. He had been expected to die at his birth being born with Brittle Bone disease, he suffered more than 200 bone fractures by the time he was 18; he is confined to a wheelchair and only reached the height of 3 feet. But he has overcome these obstacles which would (and do) stop many others from living their lives and has become an inspiration to many. He has worked in the White House, he started a professional speaking company and travels around the world, has shared the speaking platform with Tony Robbins and Mark Victor Hansen, received Board Certification in Clinical Psychotherapy from the Association of Integrative Psychology and is a Certified Trainer of Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Pearls of Wisdom
Items captured during Sean's talk
* People connect through their emotions not just with communications.* When people connect they are not ever going to know what someone else is going through.
* Reach out to those that bother you the most because they are the ones that you can learn the most from.
* Watch what you say to yourselves. We are always so much harder on ourselves than we would ever be on others.
* Pain is inevitable but suffering is optional.
* Anything is possible when you take a stand.
The Core of the Presentation
Get Off Your But!
The core of his conversation focused on how we need to get off our BUTS - and he isn't talking about our padded behinds (necessarily!) He was referring to our excuses. He has written a book Get Off Your "But": How to End Self-Sabotage and Stand Up for Yourself He categorized our excuses into three types of excuses. The BUT excuse: but I don't have the time, but I don't have the money, but I don't have the education
The BUT fears: but what if I fail, but what if I look stupid, but what if they laugh at me
The BUT insecurities: but I'm not pretty enough, but I am too old, but I am too young,
All different types of excuses we use to keep us from reaching our goals. After his talk I was moved to commit to pay attention to why I wasn't doing things. To pay very close attention to my self talk and watch out for these BUTs - I definitely want to get off mine!!!
